Breast clinic app date 4th August, is anyone else's around then?

Hi, i found a lump in my breast Tuesday night. Went to see the GP Wednesday morning and he referred me straight to the breast clinic and said I'd hear something within the week about an appointment. Got a letter by email this morning saying my appointment is on the 4th of August which is a week today!

Anyone else waiting for an appointment? Or got one confirmed on or around that day?

Just thought it would be nice for us who are going through the same thing to have a chat whilst we wait :) as its so nerve wrecking!

  • I'm back from my appointment, it didn't take long at all as I was the first patient. Was only there for 45 minutes! Maybe less! So first saw the consultant who did a breast exam. He said he could feel a definite lump and circled it and sent me off to the ultrasound room. Whilst I was having my ultrasound apparently the consultant felt another lump and not the one I went in for so she scanned where he circled and said she'd passed over another lump (the one I knew i had) so she scanned the first lump and said it was a cyst and drained it and said see if you can still feel the lump you came in with. So i felt it and said yeah its still there and big and she said I thought so he's felt the wrong lump (not very ensuring) she scanned the lump I went with and said it defo needs a biopsy but there was also a another cyst attached to it so she drained that first, then did THREE core biopsies on the lump and said there was some calcification (or something like that) in it and she thought it might be a papilloma which I've never heard of. I asked what this was and she said its usually a benign growth but they can turn cancerous so they like to take them out. I should of got my results on the 14th but as I'll be away I've got to wait until the 21st which is abit worrying as I'm a nervous waiter. Apparently my breast is going to bruise really badly as I bled alot inside and I'm to do no heavy lifting in the next 24 hours. I've come home, partner is still asleep on the sofa. One daughter is up and asking where I've been, told her I went to physio. I've googled papilloma and it said its a wart type growth in the breast ducts, defo doesn't feel like a wart! I wish I wasn't going away now :(

  • Hi, just read your message , I’ve got two benign cysts ,had them over 30 yrs, they’re still ok! Not heard of papilloma in breast but they’re doing lots of checks so sound very thorough, take consolation that they’ve seen your lump and called it a cyst although with calcification which isn’t usually serious. Could they not text message your results? Could you see them on your nhs hub. Just had a soakin the bath and going out for a walk with the pooch , cold compress on boobs.

oh oh, just had telephone call, appointment cancelled, next Friday instead, Keep the faith x

  • Thanks Anne suppose I've just got to play the waiting game. Its just scary, I've done some research in papillomas and the most common symptom is bloody discharge from the nipple which I haven't had. So I'm thinking its not that. Plus they describe it as a wart and mines a rock solid oval 1cm lump, doesn't sound very wart like

  • That's a bit pants, its horrible when you are having to wait.  I am sorry they have postponed your appointment.

  • That sounds more like a fibroadema but the truth is until you get the results you won't know.  Wishing you well during this waiting phase.

  • Thats what my gp said he thought it was before referring me to the breast clinic. I have just been on my NHS app and noticed that they have sent me a bunch of information on macmillan cancer research, is that a normal thing for them to do?

  • I have no idea, different health trusts do things differently.  I haven't had anything on my app, not that I have found anyway.  Which section of the app was it under? The only leaflet I was given was recovering from a biopsy and how to look after it.

  • It is on the 'your health' page and then on the 'shared health links'

oh no so you are still in waiting I was hoping you would be sent away today all clear bless you to go on your break with this hanging over xxx

  • Ros

maybe they send all breast clinic appointments macmilan stuff as standard I never used the app so I’m not so sure xx

  • I know its crap not knowing, hopefully spending 10 days away will make the time go quicker but I also wish I wasn't going so I could have my appointment on the 14th instead but don't want to let my family down :(

  • I hope so! Otherwise they know something they didn't tell me!

  • Yes I understand I would have been the same myself, but to reassure you I wasn’t told that mine was cyts ect , I was told it looked suspicious from the onset so Hopefully yours will be ok , try and enjoy your holiday I’m going to Spain tomorrow too xx

    love Lara xxx

  • The more reading I do on papillomas the more scared I'm getting as apparently 17-20% of them turn out to be cancerous when taken out and looked at properly because its hard to tell just on core biopsy, that just confirms wither or not it is a papilloma. She said if its confirmed they will want to take it out as they can turn cancerous. I hate this so much!

Oh Spain is beautiful I hope you have an amazing time! Bring the hot weather back with you please as its miserable here lol

  • Since being on here around 13 months I have only head of maybe one with papillomas to be honest xx don’t here it much xx

  • I will try and remember the lady  who was on here and hopefully she can advise you on it as cause I’ve not heard of it much I’m bkt sure what it’s like hopefully she will still get the message and she can help I will scroll through and try and find her for you xxx

  • You can use the search box at the top of the forum. Just type in papilloma but make sure you do it from the home page, that way it will search all the categories.

  • Thank you I've read a couple of threads, but still really none the wiser. Found one thread where they diagnosed papilloma but once they had taken it out fully it turned out to be cancerous. I need to stop reading its making me feel ill

  • How did you get on, mine is a blood clot , Mondors disease causing swollen veins, bloody painful but should disperse.

  • Hi nessie sorry for the late reply, I must of updated a different thread and forgot to do this one sorry! I got a phone call last Thursday as I was coming back from cornwall! They said its a benign solid cyst and no further action is needed! Phew! I was so worried! My breast is still bruised and the lump is still there but the breast nurse who rang me said my body should re absorb it within time. I hope so because I hate feeling it!

Thank goodness yours is benign too! I've never heard of mondors disease it sounds like something from the Lord of the rings! Have you got to have any treatment for it to stop other blood clots forming? I bet your so relieved, I know I am!

  • Oh that’s good news, I have 2 surface cysts ,hubbie calls them Spot and Patch lol. The team were very thorough, they did another mammogram and an ultrasound . I have a very tender area on the inside of the breast which connects to the chest wall, there is a very distended blue vein which runs to the nipple. They checked for inflammatory bc but nothing seen so got the thumbs up, waiting for the letter with more info as it was a bit busy that day. Can’t fault their attention, very thorough..They said I could choose to have yearly check ups instead of waiting till I’m 70.

We live to fight another day, enjoy.
