Possible Lymphoma: anyone had a story similar & outcome?

I’m 24. I think my story actually started when I began to suffer with fatigue, tired all the time, napping frequently. Then I realised I’d lost 4 stone in about 3 months. I found a 3cm lump in my groin area. Contacted GP who examined & confirmed it was a lymph node. I then found another smaller one nearby. These lumps are not moveable, and rubbery in a way but hard if that makes sense. I’ve had bloods, urine and a swab and all results were normal & infection is completely ruled out so I’ve been referred to a consultant haematologist. My first appointment is at the beginning of August.

Recently I found another, maybe a gland, on the right side of my jaw, just under my ear as well, and you can tell it’s larger than the other side just by feel, but again, feels quite hard. It’s been over a month and those lumps are still there. But I do believe my large lump has grown more internally as I feel like it’s pressing on the nerve that runs down my leg. This only started over the past week or so. Also, I’m not sure if this is relevant but I’m now having pain during sex. Every time both during and after, and we do it frequently and this has only just started as well.

I would be grateful if anyone could share their stories similar to mine and what outcome they had please?

Thank you.

  • Lau, get yourself to your GP for a referral.  My OH was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma after a lymph node biopsy, also in his groin. First he was put on what they call "watch and wait" where you get regular check ups but no treatment until you start to feel unwell.  My OH had a problem with his spleen which is when treatment started.  He tolerated the chemo really well with hardly any side effects.  He has now been in remission for 8 years.  He is a lot older than you.

  • Thank you so much for taking the time to reply to me, I really appreciate it. I’ve been referred to a haematologist and my first appointment is on the 3rd of August. I’m just wondering what I should expect, if they might do a biopsy on the day. The consultant has also requested a further blood test that I need to get done

  • I doubt you will have a biopsy the same day.  Depending on how deep the lymph node is depends on what kind of biopsy and whether it is done under a local or general anaesthetic, if its the latter it definitely won't be on the same day.  In my experience with my OH, a separate appointment was made for his biopsy but he did have a GA.  Try not to worry, there are lots of reasons for enlarged lymph nodes.
