Follow-up call after mole removal

Over a month ago, I removed a mole on my breast. It was assimetrical and two diferent colours. Last Sunday, I got a call from the hospital to tell that I have an appointment with the Dermatologist in 9 days.

I find it really frustrating that they can't tell you bad news over the phone. I had in situ melanoma 15 years ago when living in another country. I have no idea what to expect. The letter doesn't say urgent or to take someone with me.

Can someone help me to undertand/prepare for what this appointment means? In America, doctors are very straightforward and you get news over the phone so you can be mentally prepared.

Thanks!

  • Hello Mika23

I'm sorry to hear that you're waiting for biopsy results at the moment. We know that for many people this can be a worrying time.

Presumably, the call that you received regarding your upcoming appointment was from a clerical member of staff and understandably they wouldn't be able to disclose clinical information to patients. Understandably it can leave people feeling anxious knowing that there is an appointment upcoming but hopefully when you see the specialist they will be able to answer your questions fully.

If you think it may help to chat things through with one of our nurses ahead of your appointment with the specialist you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

Do let us know how you get on with your appointment.

    Best wishes,
