Confused

I had a mole removed nearly 6 weeks ago and still haven’t received my results. I have spoken to someone in the dermatology department at my local hospital this week and they said the results were in the post, that was 4 days ago and still haven’t received anything. In the meantime I have received a letter for an appointment at the dermatologist, I’m a bit confused and very worried & anxious as I’m guessing the results are not good.

  • Hi,

I'm sorry that you are having problems getting your results. When is the appointment for? Perhaps it's to explain your results and they want to keep an eye on you. It's rare that they send bad news results through the post but it doesn't necessarily mean the appointment is for bad news either. I would either ring dermatology again on Monday and if the receptionist/Secretary can't discuss the results ask for the Dermatology Cancer Specialist Nurse to ring you back - they can discuss results in behalf of the consultant. If you can't get anywhere with this, ring your GP in the hope they've received their copy of your results. If they have, they should be able to give you the details but they may not understand the intricacies of the information so don't expect a full explanation if it's the pathology report.

Good luck and please let us know how you get on,

Angie, Stage 3 melanoma patient since 2009
