Feeling worried

I am 55 and my last period was September 2019. On the 13th of July I had an episode of vaginal bleeding. I got a Dr's appointment the following day and was sent for immediate blood tests. This was the Friday by the following Wednesday I was having a transvaginal scan. 2 days later I received an appointment with a gynaecologist. This appointment is for tommorow 9.30 on a Sunday !!!. Obviously fearing the worst and feeling very worried one of the blood tests done was ca125 which I know is an ovarian cancer marker. I've also received a txt from my Dr's stating my vitamin b12 levels are low and to start taking oral vitamin b12. Anyone else had experience of this and the very quick appintments

  • If you have post menopausal bleeding you will always be referred under the 2 week pathway, it’s good you have a quick appointment, they will probably give you an ultrasound, measure thickness of womb lining and take it from there…I’ve had to go through this twice, in 2019 when everything came back normal and the bleeding was due to some polyps, which they removed, and again this year where they again found polyps but this time of of them showed precancerous cells, so I’m booked in for a hysterectomy in September.

After an ultrasound they will probably give you a hysteroscopy, which is a small camera so they can have a look around, take a sample for biopsy and then take it from there.

I recently had an appointment for a mirena coil and biopsy on a Sunday, so don’t read anything bad into the fact you have an appointment at the weekend.

Hoping everything turns out ok for you x

  • Sorry, just seen you’ve already had a scan!

  • What can I expect at the gynaecologist appointment tommorow. I've already had the ultrasound what's the next step

  • They will probably tell you the scan results, maybe a hysteroscopy or they may arrange that for another day, all hospitals work in different ways but you are in the system now so things will progress…I contacted my GP in January this year about post menopausal bleeding…had scan in feb, then hysteroscopy in April so they could have a look around..back to have polyps out as outpatient but they couldn’t do it as my BP was too high…extra BP tablet issued by GP and 24 hour BP monitor which showed model readings.

Back for second attempt in May, at removing polyps, BP too high, white coat syndrome, but they did manage it eventually…then the atypia hyperplasia was found and hysterectomy recommended..cancellation appointment for that in June but blood sugars too high so sent home with recommendation for Mirena coil until my rescheduled op in September.

Mirena put in and another womb biopsy taken mid June…result from biopsy yesterday, normal…

Now I’m waiting for September for my hysterectomy..most of the year been taken up with poking, prodding, biopsies, so you can see these things do sometimes take time..,I’m fed up to the back teeth of it all, off on holiday shortly and then another holiday early September…they are well needed!

Hopefully you will know more tomorrow, keep me posted x

  • Hi Kelly , these tests are routine if you have any post menopausal bleeding and guidelines aim for a two week referral ( which doesn’t always happen ) , so I’m pleased you’re being seen so soon . Hope all is ok . Sometimes they put lists on at the weekend to try and get the lists down .

  • I would say you will have a Hysteroscopy where they will take biopsies and remove any polyps fibroids for testing ,that's what happened in my case after ultrasound .
