Liver or pancreatic cancer worries

Hi everyone my mum has been having blood tests done for awhile now every so many weeks due to severe anemia. She had endoscopy and colonoscopy done in November that showed nothing but a hiatus hernia and gastritis.

However she had a phone call on Tuesday and the doctors said that her blood sugars have gone through the roof ( she's type 2 diabetic) and her ggt levels were 400.

She's been referred to the hospital for sufficient testing. I'm really panicking now that it's cancer of the liver or pancreas .

I'm 21 weeks pregnant with her 4th grandchild and I'm really stressing and worrying about her

  • Hello C.martin30.,

I am so sorry your mum has been going through all these tests due to severe anaemia. It must be rather distressing for you all as nothing has yet been found and yet her blood sugar levels and GGT levels have gone through the roof. It's good though that they are being thorough in their investigations and she has been referred to hospital for further testing. It's completely understandable that you are worried about the worst but there are many other conditions it could be other than cancer so try to resist the urge if you can to look anything up on Google or it will inevitably show you the worst possible cases and make you even more anxious.

Congratulations on your pregnancy - I can imagine that the enjoyment of your pregnancy is being tarnished by all this uncertainty and I hope that you get some definite answers soon. Waiting is not easy though as it can take a long time and extensive testing to get a proper diagnosis and there are helpful tips on this page to help you cope while waiting for important news.

I will now let members of our community who have been in a similar place before come and say hello and share their experience with you. I am keeping everything crossed for you that it all turns out to be nothing of concern for your mum and that you can enjoy the remaining weeks of your pregnancy. Keep us updated if you get a chance on what you find out.

    Best wishes,
