Right Breast lump-new

Hi everyone, I’m 34F. I found a lump Monday in my right breast which I thought was the roughy size of a small marble. It wouldn’t really move and is very hard/sharp painful.

I went to the GP and she said there was definitely something there but a bit bigger than what I thought.

I have been given a 2WW and my appt is next Thursday. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what happens as your first appointment? If you have tests e.g. Ultrasound can they give you results the same day?

I am already diagnosed with three autoimmune diseases and now this has come up I just feel so anxious about everything.

  • Hello Hannah, on my first appointment at the breast clinic I had a mammogram on both breasts ,as they found an obvious mass with me ,I had a biopsy taken as well .This was not painful and everyone is very helpful . I was told on the day that this did look like cancer but samples were sent away . I was seen within 10 days for a biopsy in my other breast and had a definite diagnosis. Hope all goes well for you

  • Hi Hannah,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

As Laraj and Rumplestiltskin have said, the usual tests are physical examination of your breasts, mammogram, ultrasound and biopsy. These are all usually done at your first appointment in most clinics. Not everyone gets a mammogram. Younger people have denser breasts, which don't show up well on mammogram, so they don't always have a mammogram. You may then have to wait 1-2 weeks to get the results of your biopsy. Sometimes, if your consultant is pretty sure that it is cancer, you may be told that it looks suspicious, but they cannot be certain until the biopsy results come back.

Not all lumps are cancerous. Many turn out to be cysts or fibroadenoma. It is a fact that only 2 people, out of every 10 who attend the breast clinic, will get a cancer diagnosis, so the odds against it being something untoward are in your favour. I know that this is a worrying wait. You have done the right thing by getting it investigated. I shall be thinking of you next Thursday and I hope that all turns out well.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
