How common do positive stool samples result in a cancer diagnosis? My husband has been called in by the dr as had positive result, dr has requested a colonoscopy within 2 weeks - is that the usual procedure?
From what I've read, about one in ten result in a cancer diagnosis.
And yes, positive stool samples generally lead to a colonoscopy and while I am not in the UK, my understanding is that there, the aim is for them to be done within two weeks.
Try not to think of it as being a question of whether or not he has cancer. All you know currently is that he has blood in his stool. Many things can cause that and cancer is nowhere near the most common. Hemorrhoids, a fissure or a polyp or polyps would be more common.
Hi I had this last year and yes it is very scary all sorts go through your head ,I went for a Colonoscopy within the 2 weeks and they told me straight away what they'd found and it was nothing serious they found I had Diverticulitis a polyp and fibroid ,its much more likely that its something very simple rather than cancer ,but yes this is the normal procedure if the test is above 10 .
