Positive FIT test

I’m 40 years old and I’ve had what I thought was an upset tummy for almost 4 weeks, for 2 of these weeks I was passing almost water like poo (sorry for the info) horrific smells, tummy noises and cramping.

Now for the last 2 weeks, I am constipated for 3 days then have a day of loose poo then back to constipated, the smell is much better as are the tummy noises and the pains.

doctor did blood tests - all clear and so asked me to do stool tests for inflammation, infection and a FIT test, just had a call to say all inflammation and infection were clear but there is an elevated blood result in my FIT test and I'm being referred 2ww to hospital.

I have no other symptoms and im sadly not losing weight - does anyone have any experience with whether this sounds like cancer or something else?

I have 3 children and im trying to put on a brave face for them but im so scared

thanks for reading and wishing you all well ️ ️

  • Hi I had two HighFIT results the second was more than 400 but my doctor wouldnt refer me as urgent because my bloods were fine. She did give me a letter to go private. I had colonoscopy yesterday, doc said I don’t have cancer but he has removed several polyps. I’ve a review on 3 weeks. I could worry myself I’m still reading cancer blogs looking for evidence that a polyp could be cancer. However nurses and the doc told me before the procedure he knows when it’s cancer without the biopsy so I should trust the 30 years experience he has. Don’t get bogged down reading cancer blogs they are full of wonderful people sharing their courageous and honest stories but so many things cause a high FIT if you can just get the colonoscopy and go from there. 9/10 times it’s not cancer

  • Thank you so much for replying

I’m so pleased for you that you’ve got an answer & pray your 3 week review closes this nightmare off for you.

I should hear by tomorrow when my appointment is, my fit test was 130 apparently- such a worry, it’s so hard to fall into Dr Google isn’t it! X

  • Morning

I am going through pretty much the same, have had change of bowel habits for a few months, weight loss and an incidental finding of thickening of colon wall during a CT scan for something else. My bloods are fine but my FIT came back as positive yesterday and I already have colonoscopy booked in for 3rd August.

I know it is going to be hard not to worry, it’s only natural, but I have just spent weeks going out of my mind fretting and googling for the other investigation I was going through and it really affected my mental health. Dr Google is the worst thing ever. I am really trying hard not to get into that mindset this time. My Dr told me there are many things that can cause bleeding, she even suggested mine is possibly a bleeding pile (which I know I do have some).

Positive thoughts for you and all the best for your investigations. Hopefully you will have your colonoscopy soon and it will put you mind at ease x

  • Thank you! And to you! Keep in touch with your outcome! X

  • Hello I have had the exact same symptoms as you. Mine started 5 weeks ago and the same stool types as you in that order. I have been going up to 6 times a day also!  Can I ask have you had any results I’m waiting for my colonoscopy appointment date as I found I too have postive fit test but normal bloods thanks

  • Hello, I had a telephone consultation today and my colonoscopy is booked for 14th august.

im completely back to normal now with my bowels finally!

im praying for a positive outcome, do you have any other symptoms? X

  • Thanks for replying! I have had mucus for the past three weeks and bits of blood in the mucus but I’m not in pain but it’s all very similar to yours apart from you have not mentioned blood or mucus. I hope it goes well for you.. I felt better reading your symptoms as I’m hoping maybe it’s a strange but or some bacteria I don’t know

  •   how are you doing? Have you had your colonoscopy?
