7x5cm lump on Thyroid, what to expect?

Hi,

Just looking for someone to give me an idea of what to expect next or even timescales in Northern Ireland.

I've been to GP on Friday who sent me to A&E who done bloods which were ok and sent home with an urgent red flag referral for ENT for camera, USS and FNA.

Don't know what to expect or do. I had a 2cm nodule 15 years ago but it was checked and all ok, although my dad has since had his thyroid removed as it was cancerous.

I'm normally the strong organised one but this has knocked me for six and quite tearful unexpectedly, I didn't even know what to do work wise, but have a great boss who told me just to go off sick and spend time with my family.

Thanks for any advice.

  • Hey Sparkle,

Sorry to hear that , yes the time to wait is killing us , keep strong, but how did you get checked 7x5cm? In the A&E ?where is the lump ? How old are you asking you these it depends it might relate to menopause if your age older

How come you did not notice before it goes larger ?

  • Hi MoonHalo, thanks for replying.

The GP felt the lump and in the letter to A& E had 7x5cm on it. A small part of the lump only suddenly appeared and was sore with awkwardness swallowing too. It's clear to see when I swallow.

The lump is to the right side of my thyroid and comes across the centre. Looking back over the past week, my whole neck in general seemed to have gotten fatter/swollen.

I'm 40, and now my voice seems a bit different.

  • Thanks for replying,  hope it's infection not something worst .

Please be patient,  and have faith
