Large lump in breast + HRT

Hi everyone

First time posting. I am nearly 45 and started HRT last October. I had a routine mammogram through work 18 months ago that was clear. Last week I noticed a large lump in my breast that has seemingly developed really quickly. I check every so often and have not noticed it before but this can be felt through clothes and when I just brush my hand past my breast. It is a bit tender too.

I saw the GP on Thursday and I asked if it could be a cyst or fibroadenoma and caused by HRT. I knew I would be referred to the breast clinic anyway but the GP's manner after examining me has really frightened me. She looked really worried and her hands were shaking as she typed the referral. She said it didn't feel like a cyst and was referring me on 2ww. 

Now just waiting for the appointment to come through and really panicking. I'm very fortunate that there is no history of cancer in my family and I am trying to be positive and logical about it but I am freaking out.

Has anyone else had a sudden large lump appear while taking HRT that can give me any reassurance that it might be OK?

    Just read some of new messages,  as I have posted my first time as you . 

    I am not sure what to say to you , they refered me to HRT as i was going through menopause,  but i was worried as i am smoker , so i took different route which i got really good tablet from boots helps me through my symptoms anyway.

    but i had lump in my breast , and was worried but it was syst not harmful,  please dont worry . Should be fine, finger cross keep us update

    Thank you. And sending lots of good luck to you. I can relate to not wanting to worry family. I have told my husband but can't bear to worry my mum about it. I hope you don't have to wait to long and get positive news too x

    there is lots of support here for you stsy in touch when you need too lots of ladies been through this with positive and negative story’s it’s real life here xxx

    Hi Bex, thanks for getting in touch and sorry for not updating the thread. It was a large cyst and it was sorted easily. I did stop HRT a while after, though I am thinking of going back on it as perimenopause symptoms are becoming a lot. Will see if that causes a cyst to return but nobody could tell me if that was definitely what caused it. 

    If you are going through the same thing now I hope it all works out for you too x
