4 year old child with worrying symptoms

Hi, my son is 4 and has had swollen lymph nodes in his neck and swollen tonsils for nearly 2 months. He had a strep an infection which has cleared by antibiotics but the swelling remains the same. One of his tonsils is significantly bigger than the other.
He’s had an ultrasound scan and two sets of blood tests with nothing coming up.

I seem to be the only one that’s worried about the swelling with doctors frequently telling me lymph nodes can stay swollen for months and months.

can anyone tell me any of their experiences with anything similar and does any cancers need any further testing for diagnosis or would something show in his bloods?

thanks.

  • Also he has had night sweats as well since symptoms started but no other signs of anything! He is still playing as normal

  • Hello Greenie012

I'm sorry to hear that your little boy has been unwell recently and that despite the investigations he's had you're still worried about him.

Lymph nodes can indeed remain raised for quite some time following an infection. As a Mum, it's understandable that you may still be feeling anxious about these raised lymph nodes and the night sweats that you've mentioned. Do arrange to speak to your GP for a second opinion if you're still worried. Hopefully they will be able to give you some further reassurance.

In the meantime if you'd like to chat things through with one of our nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

I hope things settle and improve soon.

    Best wishes,
