Period and sweat smells like fruit has anyone experienced this as a symptom

Sorry if this sounds crazy. I have smelled a cancer smell off people before a kind of fruity smell. I have had a lot of gynecological problems which have been put down to fibroids (bloating, irregular periods, heavy bleeding) I noticed that if I was using a tampon it would smell absolutely foul when it came out. I went for my smear which came back fine. The nurse said I have erosion of the cervix which she says is common. I am worried that something is being missed. My periods smell like overripe bananas when the always had that normal blood smell. I can also smell this from my armpits. It's making me think there is cancer somewhere that is being missed. I'm 41. I'm not a worrier but I think if I go and say this to the GP they will think iv lost the plot. I'm just wondering if anyone else has experience this fruity smell from their sweat and period and went on to be diagnosed. Many thanks

  • Hello Looloobell

I'm sorry to hear that you have some ongoing concerns about your health. It can be difficult when you feel that something isn't quite right but you're unable to put your finger on exactly why you feel that way.

Given how concerned you are feeling about things it's probably sensible to make an appointment to discuss your symptoms and concerns with your GP. Hopefully they will be able to give you some reassurance and help improve the gynaecological symptoms you're experiencing.

I hope things improve for you soon.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Looloobell,

Interested to know if you've pursued this with GP?

I've just had an abdo and transvaginal scan due to persistent bleeding. Awaiting results. .. And I've definitely noticed that sweet, fruity smell. To me, it's so strong and I can't get rid of it, any bleeding or discharge smells but the odour also just seems to 'be there', not really coming from anywhere in particular.

I've had swabs and treatments for thrush and BV but it isn't that. Curious about your (or others) experience x
