Early signs / symptoms

Hi all,

first off thanks for taking the time to read!

Where do I start!!!! Last week I had really bad lower back pain, but didn’t think too much of it and prior to that had constipation. I played football on the Monday evening and once I got home I went to jump in the shower only to discover my underwear were saturated in blood. A visit to A&E and an examination has referred me to a cancer specialist at another hospital which concerns me a great deal as the hospital I attended have their own Colorectal clinic. Bloods were taken and my haemoglobin levels were high (non smoker).

I have chased the consultant whose secretary has informed me I have an urgent appointment which wont be until August due to the strikes etc.

probably shouldn’t have but I googled signs and symptoms and apart from weight lose I tick all the other boxes

I have never been in this position before and no idea what to think of it all or process it. I don’t really have people to talk to who may understand my worries. Am I over thinking it?

  • Hi leigh508,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. It's natural to worry in these situations, and the uncertainty is never easy to deal with. It's good to hear you have a referral in place - I can imagine this feels like quite a wait, but it's not too far away now hopefully.

Do try to avoid Googling things as the information will often be irrelevant and it only tends to lead to further worries. While waiting, take things a day at a time and try to focus on other things and keeping busy to help keep your mind off any worries.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
