2 Week Referral

Hi all, hope everyone is well.

Little backstory, I visited my GP and had an ultrasound early last year due to a small lump in the scrotum, the ultrasound just confirmed it to be a harmless cyst. Recently, whether I’ve just been paying more attention/overthinking it, I was a lot more aware of an ache. I visited the GP again last Tuesday (04/07/23) he took a urine sample which came back all ok and did assure me he had no cause for concern but he will book another ultrasound just to make sure and for my own peace of mind.

This may sound silly and by no means am I complaining, but I’ve already received the letter for the ultrasound appointment on the 15th which will make that less than 2 weeks. Can’t say for sure how long I waited last time, 4-6 weeks maybe?

this is where I’m concerned as I’m aware of the 2WW/Urgent referral system in place and the GP made absolutely no mention of this being the case, I suffer with anxiety/OCD so I’m finding it very hard not to overthink this and look online which I know is the worst thing to do. Is it possible to even have a non urgent referral in such a short time frame?

apologies for the long winded post, thanks all

  • When I went Gp about my on going sore throat I mentioned about referring me to ENT because it was the 4th time I was there regarding my tonsils she gave me antibiocs and refered me. I thought Il prob won’t be seen until like 8weeks later anyways I got a call for an Appoitment 5 days later which I fort was great, didn’t think anything of it got seen by ENT he gave me some antibiotics and said my left tonsil was a little inflamed and sent me on my way. Couple days later I got a letter to say I have a mri scan of the neck for a week later. Obviously this through me a little so I rang ENT up and she told me that the consultant had mentioned it to me I must have not heard it or forgot. Anyways you could imagine how scared I was and I started rambling on about how I asked him if he thought it was cancer and he said doesn’t look suspicious it was only when she turned around and told me that your Gp refered you through the 2week cancer pathway and most Gp won’t tell clients that and people usually show up at there appointments really shocked when they hear it. So chances are I think your Gp sent you through this route.
