So sorry you find yourself here. You know the context, breast cancer is uncommon in those your age. Additionally hold on to the fact that only 2 in 10 of all referred on two week wait are diagnosed with breast cancer.

That said it is a hugely stressful time. It is natural to cry a lot. I did.

I’m older than you, but have been through the system this year.
The waiting is just awful and different areas of the country have longer or shorter waits.

I heard nothing very quickly so I rang the hospital switchboard one week after my GP referred me and asked them to put me through to the appointment department for breast cancer clinic two week wait referrals. They then gave me an appointment for three weeks post referral.

If you don’t hear soon when your appointment is, I would say give them a ring and ask.

As really-scared has said . it is not unusual to cry, but don't let that worry you, as crying is a good way to relieve some of your stress. She has given you the figures on how many referrals turn out to be cancer. It is even less likely at your age, although we know that nothing is guaranteed.

I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer and I still lead a busy and fulfilling life, despite that. I was diagnosed 14 years ago.

Hi, just thought I’d update on this post. I had the ultrasound and was given the all clear- infected cyst. I was so so happy and finally relaxed, until last week when I got a phone call saying they have reviewed the ultrasound and are not 100% certain so would like me to come in for a biopsy. I had the biopsy on Friday which was completely fine and painless, was a tiny bit tender afterwards for a few hours but apart from that all fine! Now I have the worrying week to wait to see what the results are.. I’m more concerned due to the fact that the nurse said they were taking the biopsy as they thought it was a skin cyst but it’s unusual for one of those to be in the place mine is in and they need to see what “treatment” is best to offer, obviously this has my mind in overdrive as I wouldn’t need treatment for a cyst!! Im struggling to sleep and eat and honestly just want this whole process over and done with!

Thank you for the update.

I am glad to hear that this was initially diagnosed as an infected cyst. I can understand your frustration at then being called back for a biopsy, but it is good to hear that they think that it is still a cyst, albeit a skin cyst, in an unusual place. Try to stop your mind from racing ahead of you. Because it is larger, they may decide to remove it or bring you back regularly to monitor it.
