Pre diagnosis skin cancer

Hi , I would like some advice/reassurance. My daughter who is turning 16 on Wednesday has lots of moles. Recently I noticed a mole on her arm that had changed in size and shape. I took her to the doctors this past Monday and the doctor asked me all kinds of questions. She as referred my daughter as an urgent and should get an appointment within in two weeks to see a dermatologist. I had no  idea skin cancer could occur in teenagers until researching it. I am so worried as 90% of skin cancer diagnosed in children is melanoma. Is there anybody gone through a similar thing and it turned out ok? Thanks in advance to any advice given x

  • Hi haylz,

I can understand this must be concerning - although the urgent referral may be causing some worries, it is at least good that she will be seen soon and that you should find out more before too long.

It's easier said than done but try not to assume anything at this point - take things a day at a time and try to keep busy while waiting for the appointment.

In the meantime, hopefully you'll get some more replies here soon, particularly from anyone else with similar experience to share.

    Wishing you all the best,
