Just given birth now found a lump!

Hi everyone,

I'm so nervous.

I gave birth 3 weeks ago and now I have discovered a lump, it feels about 2cm, the gp said she thinks it might be hormone related and doubts it's cancer as I'm only 31 and have just given birth.

It's firm, slightly movable, quite deep in the breast and to the right (sideboob area)

She has refered me via the 2ww as a precaution and the appointment today was for 3 weeks time.

I have booked a private ultrasound for tomorrow to see if they can shed some light.

I'm shocked discovering this as I am a very avid checker... Whilst being pregnant my boobs grew 3xs the size so I don't know if I just missed it as it is quite deep :(

I've scared myself silly by telling myself it feels attached the the chest wall.

Has anybody else given birth and then discovered a lump? It's not painful at all and I have never breastfed (Although I am still leaking milk very slightly)

Hi Danalan,

A very warm welcome to our forum and congratulations on the birth of your baby. Breasts change a lot during pregnancy and we see a number of new mums with concerns. Fortunately most of these changes are hormonal, so your GP could well be correct.

This is always a worrying time and I sincerely hope that your ultra sound tomorrow doesn't find anything untoward.

Hi, I had one pop up 4 years ago at 38 weeks pregnant, turned out being a fibroadenoma. They did an ultrasound and also a biopsy which they said was standard practice, they guessed from the scan it was a fibroadenoma. I was so nervous before the scan as you just start thinking im not going to see my baby grow up etc. Fingers crossed for you xx

I had one appear when my baby was about 6 weeks. It was a fibroadenoma and disappeared about 5 years later.

Hi everybody thank you for your replies! I went to the private ultrasound clinic today and he said it was a complex cyst, it's not showing any signs of being dangerous so he's said to do a follow up in 3/6 months.

I'll still be attending the hospital referral as planned also.

Glad all went OK. Least you can feel relaxed now and still have your hospital refferal too for extra piece of mind xxx
