Red hot lump on breast and inverted nipple

Hi all

first time posting here, I have ongoing lumpy breasts. I got a cyst drained in October and a few mammograms. I found last few weeks I have been extremely tired and I was lying in bed the other night and I got bad pain in my right breast I took nurofen and I forgot about it . I looked at my breast yesterday and it looks like a red outline around my breast , hot and hard in places . The nipple has flattened and looks inverted compared to left breast. My legs have been also really sore could be unrelated . I am waiting for my GP to confirm an appointment today . I have been reading up about Inflammatory Breast Cancer . Hopefully it’s not that . Has anyone had a similar experience ??

Thanks

Ali

  • Hi Ali,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

You have done the right thing by contacting your GP and I hope that s/he was able to see you and to put your mind to rest. Here's hoping that this is just an infection, which can be healed with antibiotics. Try not to consult "Dr Google" at this stage, as it serves no useful purpose and will only scare you further.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thanks so much Jolamine. I got antibiotics today and and a referral to breast clinic , I asked GP to send as urgent . Last time I had a very large cyst in left breast and I got it drained and mammogram , ultrasound but no biopsy. I know I have lumpy breasts this feels different to me . Also have ongoing cough and pain out my lung on right side . I think the GP was fairly new and male he seemed embarrassed.! He covered my left breast with tissue  when examing right . He never felt the left or asked me to sit up . At least I got the referral. Bit of an awkward encounter I didn’t care I wasn’t embarrassed  but a GP male or female should know how to deal with breasts.

  • Hi Ali,

I am glad to hear that you managed to see the GP today. I agree that a GP, no matter how newly qualified, should never feel embarrassed b

about carrying out any examination like this on a female patient. I am relieved to hear that you didn't feel embarrassed by his reaction, but many people would have. I would have thought that he could have asked one of the receptionists to step in while he examined you, when he felt like this.

However. I am glad to hear that you got your referral and I hope that it comes through soon. It is always a difficult call when you have naturally lumpy breasts, but here's hoping that it is just another cyst.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,
