Urgent gynaecology referral

I've been having light to mid spotting after intercourse and throughout my cycle for over 2 months now  I take cerazette and don't really have periods so it's certainly been an annoyance. My gp took swabs and blood which came back fine other than thrush. She referred me for pelvic ultrasound as I was also getting slight twinges and I said I was getting slight urge incontinence at times also. The sonogrspher said she couldn't see anything untoward but said ring the doctors if not heard by the next week.

I was then told by gp message that due to some unusual appearance on scan, she was awaiting gynaecology advice. Then I received 2 referrals  one for colposcopy and the other general gynaecology. I then had my colposcopy referral cancelled (according to the consultant  my post coital bleeding needed to be persistent! It's 7/10 usually it happens!) I had a cervical ectropian a few years ago and I was seen then to have it cauterised so I don't know why this needs to be cancelled.

I was told by gynaecology today I'd expect to hear about an appt for their referral within 30 days as I'm on the urgent waiting list. So it's likely in not going to be seen for at least a month and now I'm worried sick.

Has anyone had something similar.

  • Hello RachLou84,

I think it would be worth mentioning to your GP that you are taking Cerazette as it is well known that vaginal bleeding may occur at irregular intervals while using Cerazette. You could perhaps check with your GP whether it is possible that this bleeding is linked to taking this pill especially if you didn't have bleeding prior to starting Cerazette. Try getting a second opinion and talking to a different doctor in case it is just a side effect of taking this pill. It's very odd that they have cancelled your colposcopy referral and this is something you should mention perhaps when you have your gynaecology appointment - perhaps they will be able to explain to you why this referral was cancelled.

It's bound to be a rather anxious time as you are waiting to be seen and there are helpful tips on this page to help you cope during this long wait for answers.

Hopefully you will hear from others who have had something similar before and they will come and share their story with you. Everything crossed for you that it all turns out to be fine!

    Best wishes,

  • Thank you for responding

The GP knows I'm on Cerazette and didn't really seem too bothered by that. When I spoke to the admin department at the doctors they said if I was still worried next week to phone them back and have some diary dates that I said I'd been circling to say how often it has been when I've had the bleeding. The admin lady said she couldn't understand why the consultant cancelled the colposcopy when he accepted the referral first.

It does seem a bit all over the place.

  • Just a little update....my appt has come through for a months time. It actually now says colposcopy even though my original colposcopy referral was cancelled by the consultant. It seems Gynae have decided I need one!
