High level of faecal calprotectin over ug/g

Hi everyone, I just joined this chat, as I am very worried about the extremely high levels of faecal calprotectin over 600 ug/g, could be in the thousand as ai believe 600 is the cut off point? I have absolutely no symptoms apart from a tiny bit of mucus in my stool. A bit of cramping now and then but nothing sinister. I actually thought I had IBS but now with this level I am thinking more of IBD and even worried about cancer! Anyone else with levels so high and no symptoms? I believe that a colonoscopy is needed at this stage? I had a sigmoidoscopy 5 years ago due to piles but did not show anything. If I had IBD that would’ve shown something I am guessing? Thanks all

  • Hi Macky-,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm not sure if you have a doctor's appointment booked, but your GP will be best placed to advise on your questions here, as unfortunately it is difficult for others to advise on symptoms.

Do book a time to speak to someone if you haven't already. Otherwise, if others here have similar experience to share then hopefully you'll get some more replies soon.

    All the best,

  • Thank you, yes my GP signposted me to the GI and hopefully have a colonoscopy done to find out..strange as I don’t have any symptoms plus my FIT test has come back negative, but yet I have this extremely high level of faecal calprotectin..

  • Hi, my calprotectin levels were also really high (1600) with barely any symptoms. Put off seeing a doctor for ages as symptoms didn't really affect me. Ended up being diagnosed with IBD after a colonoscopy and on medication now. Sounds really similar so try not worry (as hard as that is!).
