Something on shoulder for years

Hi there,
I have had this what I will describe as a skin tag on my shoulder for many years now its dark brown or a black one colour it has crust in it so its smooth. I have heard it could probably be a wart. But it feels and looks more like a skin tag. I just worry about it being skin cancer but I have had it several years 5+ and I am in my 20s. It hasn't grown at all or it has never bleed. My family does have a thing for moles in fact I have many over my whole body. This thing in question never hurts and quite frankly I forget I have it until I feel it. Half of me just wants to get a knife and just chop it off as I can hold it quite high above the skin but I don't want blood everywhere. If anyone knows what this could be that would be great thanks. I would really struggle to get a doctors appointment so I prefer not to bother them. Thanks

  • I genuinely believe it to be a wart I had a photo from it two years ago and it looks identical

  • Hi Abcd,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

It is impossible to be sure that this is just a skin tag and not something more untoward. I am not a doctor, but would advise that you see one, just to make sure. This is the sort of condition that your GP is there for and you will not be bothering him/her. If it is a simple skin tag, these can easily be removed to save you any further concern.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine

  • Hi Jolamine,

Thank you for responding I sent a few pictures to my doctor in the end and I have gotten an appointment for 2 weeks. They didnt say what it could be so I hope the longer wait time hints that they think its ok. But time will tell. My mum and a few other people in my family have these after talking to them. So its now just a wait. I hope all is good with it though.

  • Hi Abcd,

I am glad to hear that you have contacted your GP and that you will get this investigated further in 2 weeks. Chances are that it is nothing sinister, but even if only for your own peace of mind, you are better to be sure.

Please keep in touch and let us know what your GP thinks.

    Here's hoping for good news.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
