2nd biopsy this year

Hi All,

Just wanting some reassurance. At start of year I had a spontaneous breast infection, severe inflammation and 3 rounds of antibiotics. During examination they found a lump, which they biopsied and it showed to be benign and labelled inflammatory.

Since then, I’ve had a lump under my nipple - same one - that hasn’t gone down and grown. I went to GP on Monday and got an urgent referral which I attended today - incredibly quick. They found it was a cyst, but blood tinged when draining - could be from trauma to breast - and also some ‘gunk’ and debris in there. They biopsied again but told not to worry. Awaiting outcome from MDT meeting.

Usually I’m pretty pragmatic about these things but I must admit, I’m worried. It doesn’t sound like a standard cysts and they seemed a little more cagey at the hospital.

Has anyone else had the same and it all be okay?

Thank you loads :)

  • Hello Sheena84

I'm sorry to hear that you've had some ongoing problems with your breast health. I think it's understandable that you're feeling anxious about this most recent biopsy and what the results may be.

Try to remain positive that this could be a cyst with possible residual problems from earlier in the year. The important thing is that you've had it checked and that the team is making sure that they can get this resolved for you.

Have they given you an indication of when you may hear back from them after the MDT? Hopefully, it won't be too long. We know that for many people this period of waiting for results and information can be difficult. Sometimes it can help to chat through your concerns with someone and I wonder if you might find it beneficial to talk with one of our nurses. If this is something you'd like to do I'm sure they will be happy to listen and offer any advice and support they can. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

Do keep in touch Sheena84 and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
