swollen lymph node 18 month toddler

Hi all just looking for advice/reassurance/anything!

My little boy is nearly 18 months old and for the last 3 weeks has just had no appetite, no cough or cold just completely off his food and a little bit naggy/clingy-  I had put it down to teething.
I’ve recently found a large swollen lymph node probably 2-3cm in size. Is the swollen lymph node alone a reason to make a doctors appointment?
I would hate to waste a GP’s time but also very concerned for my little boy.

Thanks!

  • I also forgot to mention that I’ve noticed (and my friend mentioned it too) that he slightly limps on his left foot? Could that be linked? Don’t know if I am being an over paranoid mum x

  • Welcome to the forum Mum23xo although I'm sorry to hear your little one is off his food at the moment.

I know this must be worrying but don't be afraid of making an appointment with your GP to get this checked out. They would want to know if anything is amiss so if things haven't improved since you made this post, do go and see your GP as they will be able to give you the answers and peace of mind you're seeking at this time.

Many of our members have been in a similar situation with their children, so you are not alone, and hopefully some of them will stop by soon to share their experiences and advice.

We're thinking of you Mum23xo and will have our fingers crossed your little one is o.k.

    Kind regards,

  • Phone the GP if concerned!!  Your sons health is way more important than a GPs time.  The GP is paid for the time you think you’ll waste

  • I took my son for this, they said as they were movable they weren’t worried but wanted an ultrasound to be sure. He had the ultrasound and all was fine, they’ve put it down to his body fighting his eczema. He’s had them nearly all his life, still raised now and they’re still ok with it at his doctors. X

  • HI Mum23xo,

I am glad to hear that there is nothing to worry about with your son's lymph nodes. Did you mention his limp when you saw his GP and what was said about this?

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • This one I would 100% go for. It’s very very likely it’s nothing but it’s always better to be safe. my daughter was the same with being off her food but not unwell in herself. She started limping, saying her knee hurt. Left it for a few days thinking she bumped it but it got a bit swollen, so we took her to a&e thinking she’s injured it. xray showed no injury, so they did more tests and learned she had flu, strep A and septic arthritis caused by strep A. She wasn’t unwell in the slightest, the only sign was the limp and just around her lips were slightly pale. Completely crazy but she’s fine now, so it’s a good job we did get the limp checked out. Now I call the doctors for everything because I clearly can’t tell when she’s unwell! So now I’d always say any doubt, check to be on the safe side xx
