CT Scan Results

Hello,
After having had 3 unprovoked and unexplained DVTs last year I got to meet my Consultant Haemotologist for the first time on Thursday 6th April he put me in for a CT scan of my neck, abdomen and pelvis which I had on Thursday 13th April but I have not been told any results of the scan but my understanding is the results will go back to him, (being the Consultant who put me in for it).

I have a follow up appointment with the same Consultant Haemotolgist on Thurday 13th July.

My question is is it common not to be told the results after a CT scan or will I jjust have to wait to my next appointment?

  • Hi Lazarusblackstar,

My dad had a CT scan which took 4 weeks for results but then he could access the report on his NHS account. Google ‘ how to get your medical records’ which will take you to NHS website; as you scroll down the page you will be able to select ‘create an account’. Alternatively call your surgery and ask them if you set up an account , will you be able to access the CT scan report, can’t think why you wouldn’t but maybe worth the call. My dad could also see results of blood tests.

    Hope all will be well.

  • Thank you Linda63 very much for your reply.

I tried doing what you suggested and it said "Sorry we cannot connect you with your GP surgery"

As luck would have it yesterday morning I was called in to my surgery to see a GP with a view to being put on to Warfarin tablets tp prevent DVT blood clots and when I mentioned my CT Scan the GP said that no cancer was detected.
Obviously this was a relief for me to hear this news yesterday but upon reflection I do think it is wrong that I had to wait so long to be told this news.

How hard would it be for the NHS to send patients a text message saying "just to put your mind at rest your recent CT scan has been examined and no cancer detected"

  • Oh that is such good news and a weight off your mind. I agree, NHS should be able to do that, the waiting and worrying is always hard. Maybe for the future, may be worth revisiting the website, I’ve found it useful, depending on your needs.
Wishing you the very best of health.
