Possible Lymphoma

Hi, I’m a 23 year old female,

I’m currently under going testing for lumps in my neck. It started with 2 either side that didn’t grow but the left one got bigger about 2-3 months ago so I went to see the GP. They did some bloods and my inflammatory markers were raised. I’ve moved cities so just over a month ago I went to my new GP. I’d found another lump in the left side.  She referred me to the neck lump cancer pathway. About a week and a half ago I went to see an ENT who confirmed I had left sided cervical lymphadenopathy and booked me for an ultrasound. At this time I had around 4 lumps on the left side and 1 on the right. I’m also getting night sweats, periods of burning up and sweating like night sweats in the day, very itchy skin with red bumps on my chest and a small amount of weight loss.

This week 3-4 more lumps have come up on the right mirroring the left side and 1 more lump has surfaced on the left with the others. I’ve had my bloods repeated last week. My ultrasound is in 2 days. I’m really struggling with my mental health. My GP has already upped my anxiety meds, but yesterday I had a panic attack at work and got sent home. They’re really supportive but my mental health has took a nosedive since new lumps have occurred.

How do you cope with this? And take your mind off everything going on? I’m taking time off until after my ultrasound but I live alone and don’t want to go stir crazy in my flat. My family are over an hour away, it’s just hard at the minute.

  • Hi there, I'm 24 and going through a similar thing (just waiting on biopsy results for a neck lump) so I can completely understand the anxiety. It is awful and for me has been totally life consuming, even though I know it doesn't help anything!

My only advice would be to remember that lots of people get these symptoms and are investigated and it turns out to be nothing and goes away on its own or the lumps appear to stay for no real reason. There is a small chance that it could be lymphoma - I really hope that that isn't the case for you, but if it is you are on the right path to getting a diagnosis and from my own research I'm told that it's one of the most treatable cancers. The ultrasound should be really helpful for either giving you some peace of mind or some answers about where to go next. Try to keep busy if you can and stay away from google (much easier said than done), I've been waiting about 3 months altogether and time has gone much quicker when I've kept myself busy.

I really hope your ultrasound gives you some reassurance x
