6 weeks for histology results?

Hi, I had a lesion removed from vulvar (labia majora)  last week- ended up being more than expected - 2 lumps taken off rather than one so looks like someone has taken a big bite out of my labia

Consultant said follow up appointment will be in 6 weeks by which time histology report should be back.

Just wondering is 6 weeks usual wait time to receive histology results?

I wasn’t aware that the surgery would be so extensive and include removing part of the labia majora  - not sure if this was planned or the result of removing more than anticipated. Wasn’t aware they’d removed so much when the consultant came round & forgot to ask if the operation went as planned - i was still feeling very content from the general anaesthesia and whatever they’d given me.

I know the consultant thinks my insurance companies rates are too low (work insurance policy) so am wondering if they are trying to save time by combining the routine follow up with the histology results.

That’s why I’m wondering if it does take 6 weeks to get histology results back?

aware that it’s very unlikely to be anything malignant in the vulvar area but would still like to know either way

  • Hello Flipflop123 and welcome to the Cancer Chat community.

I'm sorry the surgery was a bit more extensive than what you thought it would be but I hope your recovery has been going well since you had your operation.

The length of time results can take to come back can differ depending on what part of the country you're in and whether the department that is processing your results is working through a backlog.

Hopefully some of our members who have waited for histology results to come through will share their experiences and advice with you soon but if you'd like to discuss this with one of our nurses, you can do so on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They will do all they can to answer your questions and put your mind at ease whilst you wait.

I know the next 6 weeks will be tough but our community are here for you and will do all they can to support you during this anxious time.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
