4 years ago February gone I went to see my GP, I was told by my gp a 0.5cm lump in my chest was a cyst. I went back 3 months later to be told the same, again I went back and insisted to be referred. It was now September, he reluctantly referred me,stating on my notes, initial referral rejected, patient insisted on referral. I had the lump removed in dec 2019 again told it was a cyst, now 0.7cm
2 months ago mid April I went backto the gp, as over a short period of time a visual lump reappeared under the scar of the minor surgery I’d had dec 19. This time saw a different GP. She asked what was said at the follow up after the minor surgery, I informed her there was no follow up, She apologised and proceeded to tell me the biopsy came back as DFSP ( a sarcoma ) on the 10th January 2020, She measured it at approximately 5x5cm. On the initial results, a wide local excision was highly recommended. Size 12x7mm
After a CT scan and MRI it was confirmed as DFSP and not 1 but 2 x tumours. just over a week ago I had surgery to remove the cancer.
I’ve been left with a 18cm scar across my chest and currently an open 5x5cm open wound 1sarcoma was 7x7cm the 2nd 5x3cm. My GP emailed me today to say once he sent the referral it’s basically nothing to do with him, and it was down to me to request the results of the biopsy, although I was never made aware of it being sent away, and he told me it was a cyst. He even denied not knowing the sample/ cyst was being sent away for histology, even though I have a copy of the notes addressed to him informing him it had been sent.
I’ve had no apology and he’s taking no accountability for his lack of duty of care.
the saying, adding insult to injury rings out.
would I be best seeking legal advice as I’ve been told if appropriate action was taken even when the biopsy came back as Dfsp in the Jan, I might have had a procedure under local anaesthetic with s 1.5-2cm scar instead of the 18cm scar / flap, with skin graft to come and 6 weeks of radiotherapy, as well as 6 months off work.
sorry about my rant but hope my journey isn’t experienced by anybody else and any advice from anyone who’s suffered the same treatment by a GP would be greatful
