Womb lining 16 mm

Hi all so I posted earlier as on 2 week fast track due to back pain and intermitent bleeding. Had scans as was told womb lining had thickened and a polyp. Booked for diagnostic hysteroscopy, endometerial polypectomy and biopsy + exam under general. I was ok had had some lovely reassuring answers from people who had polyps again but letter arrived today as says emndometerial thickness of 16 mm and endometerial polyp. I am 53 and post menopause.

Is 16mm anything to be worried about was focused on polyp but now worried about womb thickness. Just so scary trying to stay positive.

thanks

  • My womb lining was approx 8mm when I had my scan, I had polyps, they were removed  and came back with precancerous cells in one of the polyps..I will be having a hysterectomy…I was offered a cancellation last Monday, which I went for but was sent home as my blood sugar levels were too high, I’m having a coil put in tomorrow and will hopefully have hysterectomy in September..have you had your polyp biopsy results yet because that will probably be what any recommended further treatment might be.

I’m a dreadful worrier and had a good chat with consultant before I went home on Monday, which helped put my mind at rest, but im back to worrying again now…

Hope you get sone answers soon x

  • Thank you MrsAA.

I had polyps removed 23 months ago which were negative, so when I had similar symptoms and said I had polyps again just thought it would be the same but my womb lining last time wasnt a concern. This time he said it was thicker but didnt tell me measurement just found that out today in the letter and having bad back ache and stomache cramps, feeling full off food but not sure if just stress. Due to have biopsies and invetsigations on 4th of July, pre-op on Friday just concerned as in 23 months ago womb lining seemed fine and was wondering if 16 mm was concerning.

Such a worrying time and can totaly sympathise withn you. Feels like forvever although  it has only been 3 weeks since first went to gp. I  seem to calm then poof back to worrying again. As I went through this last time and was negative trying to stay positive but womb lining wasnt an issue before.  They gave me name of support counsellor so may give them a ring to discuss or chat with nurse at pre-op on Friday.

Hope all goes well with your treatment. Impossible to tell you not to worry but it is good you have your treatment options and if it is pre cancous you have caught it early.

Once again thank you for your kind reply

  • I was referred last June/July and the ultrasound and hysteroscopy showed polyps/ fibroids and a thickened womb lining of 15 mm as well as cysts on both ovaries. My biopsies came back all clear. The eatment was to remove the polyps/ fibroids and put me on the coil. The polyps/fibroids were tested when they were removed ( womb lining biopsied too). They are suggesting that the polyps and womb li ng are due to hormone imbalance and over a number of months the coil should return the lining to normal. I get checked and another womb biopsy after six months and again six months after that before hey will discharge me, so keeping fingers crossed all is ok. Like you I have had polyps in the past which were removed and without thickened womb lining that time, although it was quite a few years ago for me   I hope you get the results back soon and that all is ok. Wishing you all the bestest

  • Mine has been going on since January…this whole year has been nothing but worry..off to have coil put in shortly, excellent service with an appointment on Sunday..unfortunately I’m very high risk for womb cancer, very overweight, T2 diabetes, PCOS and high blood pressure (controlled with meds) I’m a walking disaster! I’m preparing for the worst once hysterectomy is done, any other outcome will be a huge relief, until then just hope the coil keeps kinds stable..fingers crossed
