Awaiting urgent referral to Haematology

Hi everyone

I hope you are all as well  as can be?

I've been seeing my GP since 2021 with what I can only describe as a dull bone pain in my right thigh/upper leg. This was manageable at first and has progressively got worse, making me feel sick and the pain in my leg keeping me up at night . I feel I haven't been listened to at any point and have been fobbed off with the GP telling me I have very low vitamin D and I need to take vitamins, which I have been doing. My mum died of myeloma, and some of my symptoms, she had, and she was not listened to either by the same GP surgery, so makes me really nervous and worried. Blood test after blood test, some levels have been low, but keep being told its my vitamin D. I had enough and told the GP I didn't feel like anyone was listening to me and that it's affecting me massively. I feel so tired all the time in addition to the pain. I requested a peer review with the other GPs. This was done and a blood test specifically tor light chain was done. This came back as abnormal and an urgent referral to haematology was made. It has almost been 6 weeks now. Ivw called the appointment line many times to be told its still being vetted by the consultant. Was told if after 3 weeks I haven't heard to call GP back. I tried 3 times. Only on the 3rd time was it chased. I  was tokd the same thing i already knew that it's being vetted. I was then told I asked for it to be chased, they've chased it and there's nothing else they can do and there's delays so that's it. I have real problem ls with my GP surgery. They have no empathy. I am worried sick to be honest. Any advice? Thanks so much.

  • Hi Tiltal and welcome to the community.

I'm really sorry to read how difficult things have been for you and how long you've having to wait to see the consultant.

I can't begin to imagine how frustrating this must be but I hope it helps to know that a lot of our members have found themselves in similar situations, so you are not alone, and I'm sure you will receive some support and advice from them soon.

We also have a very friendly and insightful team of cancer nurses you can discuss this with on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5pm. They will do all they can to put your mind at ease and answer any other questions you may have at this time.

We're thinking of you Tiltal and will have our fingers crossed it won't be much longer now.
