Referred colposcopy

Looking for advice and similar scenarios. I had thrush mid April then turned into a uti and have had recurrent utis since. On Friday I had some bleeding so went for a smear (overdue and had a baby 18 months ago). She was unable to do the smear as my cervix was red. Inflamed and had a funny discharge with some bumps. The nurse said they didn't specifically look to be cancer but she didn't like the look of them and they could be pre cancerous, cancer or polyps so I am being referred straight to the hospital.

I have had kidney pain. Problems weeing, stinging. Abdo pain, vaginal itching but not necessarily bleeding or discharge.

Can anyone share stories. I'm 34 and terrified that it's going to be advanced cancer as I have symptoms

Thanks

Joanne

  • Hi Joanne,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. It's good to hear you have a referral in place, although I can understand this must be concerning. Do mention all your symptoms at your appointment, but equally try not to necessarily assume they are are related.

Hopefully you'll get some more replies here soon, particularly from others with similar experience.

I hope it's not too long to wait for your appointment, and in the meantime try to keep busy to keep your mind off any worries.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben

  • Hi Joanne, just wanted to say I hope you’re okay and am around if you wanted to chat. Similar situation in that I’m waiting for a colposcopy and have some symptoms, particularly the UTI. I had a smear come back with moderate dyskariosis so my colposcopy is next week, also have high risk HPV. I’m 35 - it’s a very anxious time, constantly find myself trying to calm down and not think the worst. I hope you’re okay and I’ve read lots of posts were women had similar symptoms to you and turned out to be okay and nothing serious so hopefully you will be the same xx

  • Hi

Hope you are OK. I feel like I'm going crazy. She did see something on the outside of my cervix and I have pain in what feels like my kidneys but I think I'm paranoid now. I'm constantly searching and looking for Symptoms but I do know I don't have an infection :( xx

  • Hi, sorry you’re having a hard time. I really can relate, I can think of nothing else and to top it off all weekend I have really struggled with passing urine to the point I’m having to strain and have had really heavy discharge. I don’t know what to think, just hoping Wednesday comes quickly and I get some answers either way. Not knowing is the worst thing I think. I keep reminding myself that more often than not they may find things wrong but that they don’t always result in cancer, and if they do, hopefully it’s early enough that it’s okay. Do you have an appointment yet? I got mine through quickly as I called the gynae admin at the hopsital - so it might be worth you doing that if you haven’t heard yet. Hope you’re okay xx

  • I'm the same this weekend with weeing, my lower back hurts near my kidneys and I feel so sick. Everything I read is all aimed towards cancer so it makes me feel even worse. I'm so tired and snappy as well. I did ring Thursday but had no appointment set yet. Did they find anything on your cervix? I've not had a smear yet because of what the nurse found she had said she would be best to refer me to the hospital as she wasn't sure what was in my cervix. I hope Wednesday comes fast for you xx

  • Same with the snappy - I think that must be stress. She didn’t see anything on my cervix during my smear, but she did say that I had a lot of discharge and she told me at the smear that in her experience that is what she sees with women with HPV and abnormal cells - so I guess she was right. I hope you get your appointment through today, the waiting is the absolute worse. And I find the more I worry the more I feel every twinge and pain. Xx

  • Hope today goes as well as can. Mine is on Monday

  • Hi, I actually had mine on Monday due to a cancellation. I had a colposcopy and the Lletz and biopsies. Basically he thinks likely CIN 3 high grade cells, I could see them all on the screen. He’s removed them and now have to wait for biopsy results within 6 weeks. He said he doesn’t think there’s any cancer. So for me, my colposcopy last September was clear - so these have grown very quickly and it’s because I’m immunocompromised, so he’s going to recommend annual smears for me and also the HPV injections as I have a couple of underlying health issues which means these cells will likely come back as I can’t seem to clear the HPV. If they keep coming back the plan will change he says, but for now he thinks we wait for the biopsy results and then back for a check in 6m time. It hurt, but wasn’t that bad and was over quickly. I hope you’re doing okay, Monday is not long now, though I know it feels a lifetime away. Xx

  • Oh and my cervix was also red and inflamed and I could see the bumps which were like white cells - so if that reassures you at all, even that seems to be Pre cancerous and not anything more xx

  • So glad it's nothing too serious. I've just had a phone call and they might be able fo get me in Friday so I will update you. At least they have done everything and have a plan xx
