Spotting/bleeding between cycles

I have had spotting/bleeding between cycles

Clear scan

Clear pelvic examination bar nabothian cysts

Despite this the spotting has continued and progressed and GP is not prepared to refer me under 2ww

The spotting is now getting heavy and longer each cycle. I have decided to book private for a colposcopy. I cannot afford private treatment thereafter so what would happen with any results of a biopsy? Would it be given to GP and what would happen after that?

I cannot afford to have any treatment privately just the diagnostic procedure?

Grateful for any advice if anyone has any experience  Xx

  • Welcome to the forum Oliviaaax although I'm sorry to hear your doctor is unwilling to refer you despite your on-going symptoms. This must be very frustrating but I'm glad you've managed to book yourself a private colposcopy.

Unfortunately I'm unable to answer your questions about the results but hopefully some of our members who have been down this path will share their experiences and advice with you soon.

You're also welcome to discuss this with one of our nurses on 0808 800 4040. Their phone lines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they'll do all they can to work through this with you and give you the answers you're seeking.

I'm sorry you're having to go down this route Oliviaaax but I hope the results of your colposcopy bring some good news when the time comes.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi

I dont know how old you are, but past experience with spotting between periods on seperate years the Dr referred me for an ultrasound scan and results then prompted the need for hysterescopy.

Both times my spotting was down to growths/polyps within the uterus which were removed.

Usually with any gynae period or bleeding abnormalities they would suggest an ultrasound scan 1st. Have you thought about getting a well women scan done, its about £140 but they look at all the female organs and check your uterine lining as well. Might be worth looking into if your gp doesn't refer you for scan, then at least if anything does show up on scan your gp will have to action further.

    Take care x

  • Hi Indi thanks so much for your reply that's really helpful. I did have a scan done but again went private as GP said they'd send me but the referral was never made. It picked up a tiny fibroid less than 1cm and nabothian cysts on my cervix but other than that nothing. The bleeding has just got progressively worse (happening more than once a month whereas started as just one day a month which I put down to ovulation as was happening the same time of my cycle) however now it is more sporadic.

I am 29 and am going for the colposcopy this morning so will hopefully have some answers! Xx

  • Thank you for your reassuring words Steph, I am going today so will hopefully have some answers this afternoon! Xx

  • I hope the colonoscopy goes well and gives you some answers and reassurance.

    Xx

  • Hi there, I’m new to the forum. I had a colposcopy last week after 3 months of spotting between periods. The GP said I had some redness on my cervix so referred me on a 2 week appointment to get it checked. She thought it was an ectropion but the colposcopy nurse didn’t mention that she just took a biopsy. Finding the 4 week wait for results torture.

i had blood tests last June for heavy periods, they were clear. I had a transvaginal scan in feb which was also clear and my routine smear in Nov 22 which was also clear.

everyone tells me it’s unlikely to be anything nasty given all the tests I’ve had so far but I feel like we have ruled anything else out and there are visible cells on my cervix so not sure what else it could be at this point?!

not sure if our stories are similar but wanted to let you know you aren’t alone!
