Worried about skin cancer.

Hi all,

I am new to this forum, nice to meet you all.

I have a a lot of moles on my arms and on my back, I have never used sunbeds but used to be cabin crew so I have spent quite a bit of time in the sun - granted. I have always used sun cream but have suffered some quite nasty sunburns on my back etc, I burn quite easily. With that being said, there's a few moles on my arms and back that I'm concerned about. None of the moles individually are itching or bleeding but my back gets quite itchy and where I scratch is the area of where some of the moles are, if they are even moles?! I mean it's really overwhelming, moles and freckles can all look the same! I was in hospital for another appointment and decided to ask one of the doctors whilst there and they didn't seem to think anything was too concerning but they did say there was a few with different colours etc and said best place to go is my GP so they can look at them more closely with a microscope. This appointment is tomorrow and I'm really concerned as I have a lot and they are just all localised to one area, as I said some are on my back, top of my neck, top of chest, arms I have a lot. Im worried it's impossible that the GP will be able to look at them all? What is likely to happen at tomorrows appointment? do they take pictures and send them away or a second opinion? or would they know enough to know if a referral is warranted?

I'm really stressed and worried. I'm scared I've left it too long and wouldn't know of any changes as there's so many and in quite hard to see places.

if I do have to have some removed are you put to sleep under general or is it all done via local? I'm just scared potentially I could have several removed from different areas :(

many thanks xxx

  • Hello hope you're well last year March I noticed a small black spot on my toe and few others on my back, arm and tight that has changed size a bit so I went to my gp they weren't concerned about the ones on my body just the one on my toe. I had a urgent 2weeks referral to dermatology department I got a call 2 days later to come in. she also wasn't concerned about the ones on my body just the one on my toe because it was looking like early stage acral melanoma. The following week was booked to have an excisional biopsy under local anesthetic the only pain was the needle to numb the area which was bearable and only lasted  a few seconds. Hopefully that helps abit and good luck for tomorrow x
