I am 28 years old and for almost 4 months I’ve been having the following symptoms of Colon Cancer:
- More frequent bowel habits
- Blood after almost EVERY bowel movement
- Dull back, abdominal, and pelvic pain that did not improve with vowel movements
- Hyperactive bowel sounds
- And more
Eventually I was scheduled for a Colonoscopy on the 7th of June, and for a month and a half I was absolutely riddled with anxiety. There were days I’d have over 100 different searches of questions I wanted to see the data for, other people’s experiences, symptoms, etc. So much anxiety to the point that during the week of Colonoscopy, I had accepted I had Colon Cancer and my nerves almost disappeared completely.
The bowel prep was way better than expected, just the powder that was mixed with my Gatorade was a bit tough to get down, not as bad of an experience as I had heard for me personally. The worst part of the appointment day was waiting in the bed for 2 hours with patients ahead of me. The Colonoscopy and Endoscopy were instant to me, I had no recollection of the surgery and the last thing I remembered was falling to sleep.
They found NOTHING besides a polyp that probably wasn’t causing the issues. So all those symptoms, all that time, where I thought it was certain and couldn’t be anything else, it was nothing at all. But I’m extremely happy that I made sure it wasn’t Cancer and I removed something that could have actually been cancer in a few years.
Get checked up, schedule your appointment and keep it scheduled, don’t delay. Try to adapt the mindset that worrying does nothing for you and as long as you have a Colonoscopy scheduled, there’s nothing more you can do until after your appointment.
It’s scary knowing they might find something, but they’ll have a better chance of finding something early, or in mine and a lot of other cases, nothing at all.
