Endometrial Polyps hysteroscopy twice in 23 months

Hi all, just wondering if any one has been in the same situation. 23 months ago went through fast track and had hysteroscopy and polyps removed, biospy came back negative. About 2 months ago had back ache, cramps and spotting went away, happened again went to gp, exam and referral 2 week fast track.

So just had scans and showed womb thickening and growth what they suspect is a polyp possibly two  found again. They have fast tracked me for hysteroscopy, and further exams under general so they can have a look around..Want to check changes in lining of womb and biospy. , consulatant was lovely, did say its unusal to get them again so quickly, which is again why the fast track. Wasnt worried just thought its the same as last time but then little worried due to only having had  this procedure 23 months ago. Just looking for some reassurance if this has happened to anyone else.

thanks.

  • Hi

i had some PMB in 2019, thickened womb lining around 7.6mm, biopsy taken, all normal, then hysteroscopy which showed 3 polyps, they had to be removed under a general because of where they were, results were normal.

fast forward to January this year, another episode of PMB, off I sent for scan, womb lining now around 8mm…off for investigative hysteroscopy and 3 more polyps found, further hysteroscopy to remove them with Myosure.

all my previous biopsies were back within 3 weeks, this time I was waiting 6 weeks and my anxiety was through the roof, phone call last week saying I needed to come in and discuss results..anxiety was off the planet by this time as previous results were all by letter.

Emailed consultants secretary and she said she’d get a nurse to ring me…phone call received and whilst results this time weren’t normal, precancerous cells were found…had appointment yesterday and I will be booked in for a hysterectomy, I would have been asking for one even if my results had been normal as I can’t keep going through this every few years..

So whilst a slightly longer timescale to you, it does happen. Hopefully your results will all be good x

  • thank you for the reply, it is really reassuring to know it does happen, think i got a bit worried when he said it was unusal for it to reoccurr so quickly. I am booked to have hysteroscopy to remove them with Myosure also within next two weeks under general so they can have a looked around as they couldnt see overies on scan. Consulatnt at scan results yesterday did mention possible hysterectomy as treatment but said they would know more after procedure. hope all goes well  for you and  once again thank you for your reply

  • Hi

I had this procedure twice in just over 2 years.

1st time in 2021 scan showed thickening and I had intermittent bleeding. Hysteroscopy found a polyp which was removed and biopsy negative.

2nd time a few months ago same again, intermittent bleeding. Again scan showed thickening but also a large cyst on ovary, but hysterectomy found a polyp which was removed and again biopsy negative on that.

I did have an ablation after the 1st time but unfortunately this failed and due to the cyst (and not knowing if its cancerous) and the polyps that have come back twice in short space of time I am having a total hysterectomy on 27th June...terrified

  • thank you Indi for your reply, It is quite scary, I was fine at first , thought not worrying till i get the reults as I was so worried last time. Trying to stay positive but in a lot of pain this morning following scans yesterday severe back ache and cramping on one side of abdomen which I didnt get last time, think i must be a bit tender.

Its reassurring to know both your biopsy have been negative on the polyps. I hope all goes well with your hysterectomy, I wont say try not to worry as it is impossible so I will just send poisitive thoughts to you.

  • I’m terrified of having a hysterectomy as well, I’m hoping I can postpone mine until mid August as we are booked to take our grandchildren away, will have to cancel our trip to Crete in September as well…also because they found precancerous cells in one or more of my polyps I will have another wait after hysterectomy because they send it all off for biopsy again to make sure there are no cancel cells, 2023 has been a year of worry for me and I’m fed up with it.

wising you a speedy recovery after your op x

  • Thank-you

I've just realised I wrote hysterectomy on 2nd polyp, I meant hysteroscopy.

    Good luck with everything x

  • Cancer cells not cancel…why is there no edit button after posting

  • Thanks

Good luck, hope all goes well.

I've also got that dreaded wait after hysterectomy as they will be doing an omental biopsy at same time and sending cyst off to be biopsied. I'm hoping my mind will be focused on recovery rather than worrying about results.

If you do decide and can postpone yours, enjoy your time with your grandchildren. Xx

  • Thank you, I’m hoping the consultant will say it’s ok to postpone a few weeks….I’m fat as well, plus T2 diabetic and my blood sugar levels are all over the place..too much anxiety makes me eat all the wrong foods…back to low carb diet now so I can hopefully get as much weight off as possible and get blood sugar levels down as best I can…am sure I’ll get a lecture about both after pre op!

  • Hi

I’ve had two episodes of PMB, like you, once in 2021 and the second 2023. The womb lining was thick but no polyps. Both biopsies have come back normal, but never been given a reason why the bleeding happened. Hope all goes ok for you. Waiting for results is awful. X
