CT scan for endometrioma?

Hi,

I've recently had an ultrasound scan and it flagged up a cyst on one of my ovaries. The doctor said that it was most likely an endemetrioma and that they'd need to do a CT scan to look at it, along with some blood tests. I'm still waiting for the results of the blood tests, but I'm finding myself concerned about the CT scan as this seems to be for serious things (I know I shouldn't Google!). Is this a normal procedure for a cyst?

  • I'm in the USA so it might be different in the UK (though I can't think why it would) - but I had a giant cyst and was immediately sent for a scan.  It turned out to be an endometrioma.  I don't think it's unusual - regardless of what they think it is, I imagine they want to KNOW.

  • Thank you! I thought the ultrasound sca was normal, but when I was googling it was saying that a CT wasn't usually used for Endometrioma and was more for bones or rumours and so it started to concern me. Hopefully I'll get my blood results back tomorrow or Tuesday to settle my thoughts a little.

  • Hi

I have a suspected endometrioma which was 5.9cm a few weeks ago on ultrasound and following the discovery of that I was referred fir further bloods and a CT scan. The CT scan itself did show that the cyst had grown another 2cm but my consultant told me they were looking for issues around the cyst with the CT as I will be having surgery.

I think it may be a normal thing with an endometrioma as they are more complex cysts on the ovary than some other cysts.

Hope this has given you some insight

  • Thank you for your reply. Did you know before the CT that you'd be likely having surgery? Surgery hasn't been mentioned for me as of yet.
