Really Scared - recall after mammogram

I've just had a recall following a routine mammogram and I'm really scared.  It says I will have an ultrasound another mammogram and possibly a biopsy.  I can't feel any lumps or bumps but am really tired which I put down to caring for my 93 year old mum full time.

  • Hi JillyJ, welcome! I too was recalled following a routine mammogram and, like you, felt terrified in waves. I did a bit of research to calm myself and found out that the majority of recalls turn out to be nothing sinister. I've been feeling tired for about ten years since I hit 40 (!!) And the stress of the recall certainly exacerbated that. I also started having headaches, indigestion and back pain in the run-up to the appointment - all, with hindsight, down to stress. I hope your appointment goes well xx

  • I've been recalled twice now from routine mammograms, it's scary to be sure but hopefully does not mean anything sinister. My first recall I had the ultrasound, mammogram and biopsy,  and it turned out to be benign calcifications. My second recall was completely different , mammogram showed a lump to deep in the breast to be felt but arriving for the recall I was sent straight to ultrasound, told it was a cyst and it was drained there and then and I was out of the hospital for less than 15 mins in total. I hope all goes well with your appointment, those are just two examples to show that a recall does not necessarily mean bad news

  • Hi

I only went myself 2 weeks ago along with my best friend who went 2 days later and mine turned out to be calcium lumps and my friends was an accumulation of cysts so please don't think the worst as we both did.

I know it is hard not to worry but just remember they call you there to rule out cancer as well.

the staff are lovely when you attend and the they will try to give you the results on the day xx
