Breast lump has grown waiting for BC asking for experiences

Hey everyone, I found a breast lump a few weeks ago went gp after it didn't go away and have been referred to the breast clinic under the 2 week pathway and have my appointment on the 14th, my lump can be felt like underneath my areola the gp said it felt nodular, its very hard and not so much a round lump, my question is I have been trying not to touch it and had a feel today and it feels a bit bigger, easier to find without pushing down as much and just feels a bit different, could this be a good thing that it's a cyst or fibroadenoma if it has grown a bit in the past few weeks? Or has anyone had a cancerous lump that has grown or felt different in a couple weeks time? And has anyone had a cancerous lump so close or under their areola, I'm dreading if they need to take a biopsy I know you get numbed but ahh

Thank you

  • Thank you for your advice! I’ll be sure to do that so I won’t forget, I know it can overwhelming while in the moment.

Also how long does each appointment take?

  • No problem, yeah your mind goes kind of blank haha!

Well for me I arrived at reception checked in, only sat for a couple of minutes until I was called in and asked lots of questions and examined, the lump was circled and was sent to wait in a waiting room for my ultrasound which was about half an hour wait, my ultrasound was only a couple minutes then had to wait in the waiting room again to go back to clinic to discuss results I waited about an hour it felt like forever! Was called back explained the results and examined again to be safe then sent on my way, I was there just over 2 hours. It can take longer if they need to biopsy anything

  • Oh I assumed they do different tests on different days, do they do an MRI also?

  • Mine was a one stop clinic which most breast clinics are so that involves the examination, ultrasound and mammogram which they said they wouldn't do for me because of my age (25) and a biopsy if something showed on ultrasound

No, MRI isn't done at a breast clinic appointment, if cancer is found once the biopsy comes back I believe they sometimes arrange one

  • Oh wow that’s scary I really hope that isn’t the case for me and everything comes back just fine. I’m trying to not worry but I experienced a split second shooting pain on my left nipple or around the nipple area. Trying my best to not worry but it can be difficult. I find myself being calm for a minute and then I go back to worrying.

  • I've had the shooting pains since I noticed the lump, obviously I was super aware of anything breast related after finding it and thought it was a sign but for me it was all okay so as hard as it is try not to think everything means cancer you're just way more aware of your breasts than you were before. You can call tomorrow can't you if you haven't heard about when your appointment is? They were always so lovely when I called so hopefully they can tell you when your appointment is or at least when to expect around about when it will be

  • Ah tomorrow then!! They were really nice when they rang me. They rang me on Tuesday and I have my appointment next week on Wednesday! So hopefully you get the same fast appointment. Although it doesn't feel fast, feels like the days have never moved slower!! But yeah I hope that is the case and that I might just need some different antibiotics. I'm assuming i'll have the ultrasound to determine if there's anything since I am too young for a mammogram. Hoping you have some good news tomorrow in regards to getting an appointment!

  • Thank you!! That is a great idea, especially since I feel like my symptoms are forever changing as well. But thank you, appreciate that!

  • I’m definitely calling tomorrow, their lines were busy today so I couldn’t get through. I’m just hoping for the best, these random shooting pains on my left nipple was causing me to get nervous and worried when it would happen. I just hope all goes well

  • You got it fast but I’m glad that’s the case because the waiting game is difficult as it is and you don’t want to wait for too long! I hope everything goes well, if you’re comfortable to keep us upd ted then let us know! I’m wishing you the best, and I hope you receive good news and finally get a peace of mind. ️
