Breast lump has grown waiting for BC asking for experiences

Hey everyone, I found a breast lump a few weeks ago went gp after it didn't go away and have been referred to the breast clinic under the 2 week pathway and have my appointment on the 14th, my lump can be felt like underneath my areola the gp said it felt nodular, its very hard and not so much a round lump, my question is I have been trying not to touch it and had a feel today and it feels a bit bigger, easier to find without pushing down as much and just feels a bit different, could this be a good thing that it's a cyst or fibroadenoma if it has grown a bit in the past few weeks? Or has anyone had a cancerous lump that has grown or felt different in a couple weeks time? And has anyone had a cancerous lump so close or under their areola, I'm dreading if they need to take a biopsy I know you get numbed but ahh

Thank you

  • How was your appointment? I hope everything goes well, I received a referral letter today after my appointment yesterday and I’ve been an emotional wreck. I hope things get better for you.

  • Ddd

that’s amazing news , I think I would rest assured I’m sure certain characteristics of anything bad woukd have stood out , I hope you are feeling more relaxed now lovely although you have to go back I’m sure all will be good xxx

  • Yeah it just confuded me a bit because the lady who did the exam first told me I'd need a biopsy etc got me all prepared then when I went back to her after the scan she was shocked I hadn't been given a biopsy and asked to feel the lump again and said well come back if still there so I'm trying to take it as a good sign but of course our brains try to read into things too much haha! Thank you so much for your support xxx

  • Sorry it didn't tell me you had commented this, I've just seen your post and commented x

  • Hi! I'm glad your appointment went relatively well! I am 24 years old and have been referred to the breast clinic. My doctor referred me on Monday and I have my appointment next Wednesday so it's all happening very fast which is a bit scary lol. I don't have a lump, but I found a purple mark on my left breast a few months ago which spread and started to hurt, same with my armpit. My doctor told me I have swollen lymph nodes in my armpit and put me on antibiotics for a breast infection but they didn't work. Do you have any advice on what to expect at the breast clinic?

  • Thank you! I'm sorry you've got this breast worry, of course so firstly I was seen straight away for lots of questions then an exam, she first looked at my breasts sitting up arms above head etc, then had me lay down to feel my breasts and under arm, then as I had an obvious lump felt a circle was drawn around the area and was sent to wait for an ultrasound, ultrasound was super fast she just checked the lump didn't even scan under my arm but as you have swollen lymph nodes they will probably be marked and scanned, at this point if something did show then they would do a biopsy but I didn't need one, so was seen again and told just dense breast tissue and was sent on my way, I was there just over 2 hours all together because of the waiting before and after my scan, hope that helps if you have any questions fire away haha

  • Thank you for replying! I feel a bit better now I know what to expect. I'm glad you found out the same day to prevent any worrying etc. I feel like its so easy for us to think of the worst outcome when we're referred to the breast clinic despite out age etc. Did you experience any armpit/breast pain at all? Also random question, I haven't been in a hospital for a long time, do we have to wear face masks?

  • No problem at all! Yes it helps to know what to expect, this link explains it well too https://breastcancernow.org/information-support/facing-breast-cancer/what-happens-breast-clinic-appointment

Youre right its so hard not to think of worst case scenario just try remember the odds are in your favour!

No I didn't have to wear a mask I wasn't asked to wear one, I don't believe it's a requirement anymore it might differ from place to place though

  • Oh and no I didn't have any pain, occasionally I'd have a random shooting pain all over but the lump doesn't hurt at all and my armpit was a bit swollen but no pain

  • Thank you for sending me that link! It’s super helpful and informative. I seem to not be able to stop thinking about it and find myself reading everyone’s stories! ah okay. Have they told you the lump will eventually go on its own?
