Removal of auxiliary breast tissue

I had a scan 8 months ago and showed I had auxiliary Brest tissue in armpit. I had this removed last week and surgeon said he also removed a lymphnode. I don't have the answer why and wondered if anyone else had had this? I've rang secretary and she said there's be an a follow up appointment in 4 weeks.

I am also awaiting abreast screening refferal for a lump in breast. I was only scanned 8 months ago and consultant said he couldn't feel anything concerning but couldn't be sure without a scan.

should I be concerned? Is a follow up appointment normal?

  • HI Cath,

It is normal to remove one or more lymph nodes at the same time as surgery. This is sent to Pathology for testing, along with the breast tissue, that was removed from your armpit. This is to ensure that there is no spread into the lym,ph nodes. You will get your results at your fgollow up appointment in 4 weeks.

Again, the follow up appointment is normal procedure. Unfortunaly, nobody can assure you that there is nothing to be concerned about, until the results come back. Have you any idea how long you are going to have to wait for your breast scan? This is always a worrying wait. Try to keep yourself busy and steer clear of Gpoogle in the meantime.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

  • Thank you for your support.just be clear this has been removed as it was causing pain with clothes/hormones ext and has never been associated with cancer. I also had it removed from my other armpit last year and I was clear.

I just didn't have any lymphnodes removed last year which came as a shock this time.

he said something about it being in a clump but this was in passing as he left.

so assuming the tissue was around a lumphnode maybe .
    thanks again.

    Hi Cath,

Although your procedure was done for a different reaspon, it is routine to check that there is no cancer present. This is just a belt and braces way of making absolutely sure that nothing has been overlooked.

Here's hoping that if you were clear last year, you will be again this time.

Please let us know how you get on.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
