Worried about bowel cancer

Hi,

Can anyone offer any advice please.

I've had change in bowel habits for a while now. Going more often with looser stools. I've also had lots more wind.

I ordered an FOB test which I've done today and that has come back positive. I'm now petrified and beside myself with worry. My dad and grandad both had bowel cancer. I've not long had a baby too, so I keep looking at him and crying thinking I won't get to see him grow up.
Has anyone else had a positive FOB test? Can you please let me know how things went with you? Good or bad? I can't think straight and I'm literally so scared and can't stop crying. Please help. I can't cope.

  • If I were you I would make an appointment with GP ,many people get a positive fit test but most times there's nothing to worry about at all, there are so many other things that could cause an elevated test ,I had the same symptoms as you plus I'd lost a lot of weight after being sent for a colonoscopy it turned out to be nothing to worry about so like I say I would definitely see your GP if you're worried and put your mind at ease .

  • Thank you for replying, I really appreciate it.

I did go to see my GP this afternoon and she did blood tests and gave me a FIT test to do and drop back on Monday.
Can I ask, did you have blood tests and FIT tests?

  • Yes I did and they were both elevated the CA125 and fit test so I had to then have a Colonoscopy and a hysteroscopy and an ultrasound but as I say it was something else causing the positive tests but nothing worrying that was last Sep/Oct and I've been fine since then .

  • Thank you so much. I'm so pleased that all was good for you. I'm praying for the same outcome. I keep crying and looking at my baby thinking I won't see him grow up

Did the process take a long time for you?

  • Hi not long at all I had the appointments for Hysteroscopy and Colonoscopy just over a week and they tell you on the day whether they have found anything nasty or not they told me just after the tests that there was nothing to see apart from a Polyp /Fibroid which they removed also that I had Diverticulitis which I already knew so I was so relieved then they transferred me back to GP Practice ,they did take Biopsies but I wasn't too worried after what they said I had a letter about 2 weeks later confirming the Biopsies were ok ,there are so many small things that can elevate tests so try not to worry I'm sure you'll be fine ,if you want to ask anything more just get in touch I don't mind at all x

  • Honestly, thank you so much.
So they told you there and then with the colonoscopy? That's great!
I have had my bloods done and got to do the fit test on Monday then have a follow up appointment with GP on Friday. I'm so scared

How did your tummy feel? Were you needing to go more often with looser stools? I also have more wind?
I don't seem to have any other symptoms and when she weighed me I had actually put weight on, she said that was a 'good sign', but don't really know how to take that?
Were you sedated for colonoscopy? X

  • For over a month everything I ate went straight through even imodium didn't stop it that's what made me see GP I'd lost weight and was bloated it was terrible ,I went thinking I'd be given something to stop my symptoms and ended up having blood tests and fit tests when I got the call to say they were both elevated I burst out crying on the phone he said I've already put referrels in place you should get appintments soon and I did ,anyway I had hysteroscopy first which they said looked fine then Colonoscopy 2 days later which was fine and yes I had sedation I never felt a thing it was almost like it didn't happen really weird, they called my hubby in we had a cup of tea the nurse came and explained everything said I would be transferred back to GP care what a relief ,nurses were beyond amazing everyone of them couldn't thank them enough for the love and care x

  • That is amazing news. I'm so pleased all went well for you and you received such good and quick care

    What is the hysteroscopy? X

  • Its to look inside the womb with a camera which shows up on a monitor ,I found that extremely painful in my opinion it should be done under General anathsetic .

  • Oh right. Did they say why there were looking there too? Did they give you results of that on the day too? X
