Head/ neck cancer

Hi all,

Im new to the forum and am hoping for any information with regards to a first appointment for suspected head/ neck cancer please. My appointment is next week as my GP requested urgent appointment. I am being seen at Ear/ Nose/Throat clinic.

If anybody is having or has had experience of this maybe you could share with me what I may expect? I have a rather large mass in my throat and quite a few red flag symptoms but I'm remaining hopeful it will be good news. Just would like to have an idea of what may happen at a first appointment really, to prepare myself mentally.

thanks in advance. Karen

  • Why hopefully all is ok.

What are your symptoms can I ask?

  • Thank you for replying but I don't understand your question. Sorry.

if you are asking why am I hopeful all is ok.... the answer is simple.... I'm trying to remain positive and hope there is another less serious reason for my symptoms than cancer.

I appreciate your reply but do you have any information or  experience with regards to my question/ situation please? If you do I'd be grateful to hear.

    thank you.

  • Hi Karen.

Now going through what you had. Would really appreciate a chat with you a out how you managed etc x

  • Good evening Karen

I had a large lateral mass on the left hand side of my neck.

Like you I was urgently referred and had a meeting with my ENT consultant on the 22nd of March of this year.

He/she will most likely just examine your lump ,ask you for your time line,ie,when you first noticed it,whether it has grown or is painful etc.

He looked in my throat and I had a thin camera placed up my nose which just felt weird and is not painful.

Everyone is different of course ,I was just told I would be booked in for further testing, ultrasound, a fine needle biopsy and different scans.

Please try not to worry as your lump could be many different things.

I've had my lump surgically removed now and I find out the results this Tueday 3rd .

    All the best

    Mike.
