2ww hysterectomy

I saw consultant this morning after weeks of tests and biopsies and scans I have some clarity.

I have a 8cm endometrioma and have undergone a multitude of tests etc with no-one really telling me why or what for, but my case went to MDT and it was decided I should have a Total abdo hysterectomy and removal of cervix, both ovaries and both fallopian tubes.

I am 46 only had 1 previous surgery in my life for a dog bite and I have no real health complaints, I'm a fit and healthy person so the thought of this surgery is terrifying me.

Today it was made clear to me that they have not found cancer anywhere obvious but that they still highly suspect cancer somewhere and most likely in the cyst which is why my CA125 is high and why MDT have recommended the full surgery.

I'm on the urgent 2ww surgery list. I have been told my cyst given its size and where it is could have attached itself to other organs, bladder or bowel and that there is a risk these will be damaged in the process of removing the cyst.

I'm looking for some hysterectomy success feedback with similar situations, I'm an active person and dreading the 3 months recovery and dreading HRT.

  • Hello Indi42

I'm sorry to hear that you're waiting for surgery following a recent meeting by the MDT to discuss all your test results. It's understandable that you're feeling anxious ahead of your operation.

Hopefully some of the members here who have undergone a hysterectomy will reply to share their experiences with you.

If you think it may help to talk things through with one of our nurses ahead of your operation, you're very welcome to give them a call. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice and support they can. They're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

Sending my best wishes for your surgery and recovery.

  • Thank you for your reply.

I'm keen to get a date for surgery now so I can get it done, recover and move on. The thought of staying in hospital and being looked after is making me nervous, I don't like that kind of attention and I carnt sit still for more than a few hours, so recovery at home will be difficult but I'll get through it.

    Thanks again

  • Hi

I am awaiting a date in the next few weeks as well for a total hysterectomy went for the pre op yesterday they were so good at explaining the process said I would probably be in for 3 days due to a catheter did they say this to you as well?

  • Hi

No they didn't say about a catheter but consultant did say normal good scenario 3 days in hospital, then discharged.

I have not had pre op yet, I'm waiting for liason team to contact me. I have been told I will beed another full blood count before op.

Hopefully I'll hear something soon, hope you do too.

If you don't mind sharing, is yours removal of ovaries and fallopian tubes as well and is it by abdo incision?
