Bilateral ovarian cysts

Hi. I am new to here.

I had an ultrasound last week and gp phoned me next day to ask me to take blood test for ca-125 and said that I have a cyst on each ovary, that both have solid areas and a thickening to the lining of the womb. I am post menopause.
I have urgent gynaecology appointment next week and I am so anxious and worried.
What usually happens at the gynaecology appointment?

thanks in advance

  • Hiya,

    I am new here too!

I thought I was going through the menopause and took myself off to the doctors.  After hearing my symptoms the Dr organised a scan. They've found a large cyst on my ovary. I had the blood test ca-125 which came back marginally over what it should be. I've been for an MRI test today. I have been going out of my mind thinking the worst x

  • Me too it's horrible isn't it.

I only found out two weeks ago I had definitely gone through the menopause as my doctor didn't believe i was perimenopausal when I raised it a year ago as she thought I am too young. it's only because I said about symptoms I was having and that it had been over a year since last period when I saw her a couple of weeks ago that  she checked my fsh levels and sent me for a scan.

did they indicate how long it would be until you get your results? Keeping fingers crossed for you x

  • Hi

Slightly different as I'm pre-menopause but similar symptoms, cyst on ovary suspected endometrioma with solid mass inside and womb thickening but also had result of high CA125 (141) before my referral to gynae.

In my initial app the consultant done a cell biopsy and she referred me to hysterescopy for further womb evaluation and basically the only conversation had was her advising that I'm probably looking at surgery to have cyst removed and likely a CT to get a better picture of type of cyst and to rule out cancer.

So initial consultation was used to sort out further investigation that was needed I guess. That was several weeks ago and a lot has happened since with various tests etc and a surgery plan.

    Good luck

  • Thanks for the information regarding your initial appointment.

all the best with your surgery

  • My Initial appointment which came as a shock as I didn't know before hand what to expect was an internal ultrasound then taken to another room to hear the results from that and asked lots of questions  then immediately after I had a Hysteroscopy which lasted about an hour then at the end of it being told they couldn't see anything nasty so I was very relieved although they removed a Polyp and did Biopsies which I had to wait around 2 weeks for results which turned out to be all ok ,I didn't have a cyst like yourself but I had elevated CA125 I was very bloated and I'd lost a lot of weight .

  • Hi l have had complex bilateral ovarian cysts, l am post menopausal so it was a bit worrying l was referred to gynaecology oncology by the colorectal department following a colonoscopy, . At my appointment I had a rather uncomfortable internal examination and was sent for MRI and ultrasounds. My follow up appointment was with the surgeon who listed me for surgery.
The procedure took 4 1/2 hours due to extensive adhesions on the left side they had trouble finding the overy. The results of the multiple biopsies were fortunately benign.  I hope you have a similar outcome

    take care
