Colposcopy waiting times

Hello,

So for the past 4 months I have been suffering from bad pelvic/stomach pain been sent for numerous tests including a smear. My smear results came back as HPV positive and abnormal cells and referred for a Colposcopy, my appointment came through today for 5 months time! Is this normal to have to wait this long? I am quite anxious especially due to the results plus my pain symptoms as everything points to cervical cancer when I've researched. Has anybody else experienced this?

Thanks in advance

  • Hello MrsG56

I'm sorry to hear that you've been having some ongoing health concerns and that although you've been referred for a colposcopy, you're appointment isn't for quite some time yet.

It's understandable that you may be feeling anxious and that you're concerned about the length of time that you will be waiting to see the colposcopy team.

It's certainly worth giving them a call and asking if they hold a cancellation list. It may be that you're able to arrange an earlier appointment if you're able to attend the clinic at short notice. If the tests and referrals up to this point have been arranged by your GP then it's also worth getting in touch with them to discuss your concerns about the length of time you're going to be waiting and seeing if there are any other options available.

If you want to chat through your concerns with one of our nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm excluding bank holidays. I'm sure they will be happy to offer any advice and support they can.

I do hope that things are resolved for you soon.

    Best wishes,
