Suspected Womb Cancer

First post

Back in 2019 I had some post menopausal bleeding, referred under 2 week pathway, womb lining slightly thick, so had hysteroscopy and biopsy, biopsy was clear, hysteroscopy found 3 polyps, all removed under a general, results all good.

Fast forward to January this year and some more post menopausal bleeding...same procedure, thickened womb lining, little thicker than before, hysteroscopy and biopsy of womb lining, came back clear, more polyps found, they were sent off for biopsy and. 6 weeks later I'm still waiting for the results.

I was in touch with consultants Secretary last week who said results are back and with consultant for signature and plan..that got me worried as surely there would be no need for a plan if results were clear..

I emailed again today and she rang me to say consultant is on holiday (again) and would be back on Tuesday but my case had not yet been discussed at the MDT. As soon as she mentioned MDT my anxiety went sky high..you are surely only discussed at those meetings if you have cancer.

she said all cases are discussed but I am pretty sure she was just saying that so as not to freak me out - it didn't work, every link on Google with MDT says they discuss treatment plan etc for cancer cases.

I'm clutching at straws but does anybody know if non cancer cases are also discussed at MDT meetings? I know a lot of breast lump results are always discussed regardless of result but I can't find any information on other types of biopsy results.

6 weeks (next Friday) seems a very long time to wait if dealing with cancer, it's downright cruel keeping people waiting that long if their results are not good.

  • I was referred last summer with irregular and persistent bleeding at times heavy. I had ultrasound and hysteroscopy at first appointment with biopsies taken. They found cysts on both ovaries, thickened womb lining and polyps and fibroids. I was then sent for CT and MRI scans as well as blood tests. I know I was discussed at more than one MDT meeting as the results came in , not cancer. My treatment plan was to have polyps removed, get a mirena coil fitted and have follow up ultrasounds to monitor the cysts and womb biopsies every six months for 18 months. Results at the six month follow ups were also discussed at MDT meetings. I've received my results by post just under 5 weeks later each time.  I hope all goes well for you, the waiting period is truly horrendous

  • Thank you so much for your reply, has helped put my mind at rest a little bit now.

Hopefullt I will know more this week, but 6 weeks is just too long to expect someone to wait really!

  • I've now had a phone call with an appointment next week with the consultant, so I guess that means it's bad news as all my other results, which have been ok, have been by letter
