Lump in child's neck terrified!

Hello,  my 13 year old son has a lump on the back of his neck just below and  off centre to the ear.  It's slightly bigger than a pea and doesn't move.  Been there a few weeks and blood tests ordered, I'm sooooo scared has anyone else had similar? He has no pain or any other symptoms. Really appreciate any reassuring replies as I am going out of my mind with worry can't think about anything else.

  • While I haven't experienced anything similar I have two young boys and can imagine what your going though. Lumps can be lots of different things especially at 13 when hormones are rife. We have lots of lymph nodes in our necks and he could have an infection or anything. I know it's hard but try not to worry. I would say though if they say the blood tests came back clear to push for further investigation. I hope all is well x

  • Sounds similar to what I found on my 9 year old sons neck a few months ago. It felt quite firm and the shape of a pea/bean. It was very visible and I thought it had got bigger so I brought him to the doctors and he said it was a normal healthy lymph node - it was just more prominent in my sons neck because he was very slim. The dr showed me my sons other lymph nodes under his jawline etc which felt similar. For peace of mind you should book in with your gp but if he's not experiencing any night sweats, weight loss or any other symptoms of concern he should be fine. Best of luck x
