Urgent ultrasound

I went to the doctors today about my thyroid as it seems enlarged. I've been booked for bloods in the morning and have an urgent referral for an ultrasound on my neck.
I'm hoping I just have hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism as I have a few other symptoms but I'm so worried it's something more serious. I have two small children and I don't know how I'm going to cope waiting for this scan and the result.
sorry just needed somewhere to get this off my chest, everyone just keeps saying that I'm being stupid and it will be fine

  • Hi Pidge,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

Have you got an appointment for the scan yet? Waiting for it and then for the results, is always a worrying time and it is only natural to feel that it could be something serious. It is all very fine for everyone to say that you're being stupid, but they obviously haven't been through this procedure - It is extremely stressful and our over active imaginations don't help!

Chances are that this is a routine thyroid problem, is to keep busy - not difficult with 2 small children, I expect. Also, steer clear of consulting 'Dr Google' until you know what you are dealing with, as he only scares us further and serves no useful purpose, until you know exactly what you are dealing with.

Please let us know when you get your appointment through. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • I've had my blood just waiting for the results and I'm waiting for a date for my scan.
yes I made that mistake already with Google yesterday although the outlook isn't bad I think I've just scared myself.

  • Hi Pidge,

Dr Google articles are often out of date, poorly researched and aimed at the more spectacular cases. I am glad to hear that you have had your bloods taken - did they say when you should get the results? I am keeping my fingers crosses that this going to be a straightforward thyroid problem.

Don't worry if you don't hear from me for the next few days. Hubby and I have both gone down with Covid. It's hitting us both hard and I have been advised to stay away from all sociall media. I'll be back as soon as I'm able - you can't keep me down for long!

I hope that all goes well for you in the meantime. Please keep me posted.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • What I read wasn't negative per say, the outlook even if it does turn out to be cancer seems good. It's more that from reading I've convinced myself it's more likely to be cancer.
No she didn't say, I'm assuming it will be a few days. She seemed to be in a rush, my blood request wasn't on the system so she just done a thyroid check, I'm not sure if the doctor wanted anything else checking.
The doctor also told me that depending on my bloods and ultrasound I may have to have a camera down my throat. I feel like I have something stuck in my throat which is worse after they poked at my thyroid.
Oh no, hope it doesn't affect you too badly and your feeling better soon

  • My bloods were normal. I’ve had my ultrasound and have been told I need to speak to gp. The receptionist has given me an appointment for next week. I’m not very happy about waiting over a week though. I’ve got two young children and I’m so stressed about this
