CT with dye contrast Ovarian Cyst

OK

So today I had my CT scan. Not entirely sure what they are looking to see. I have a 6cm Endometrioma on my right ovary and my CA125 was 141.

I understand them doing a CT, in their words, to get a clearer picture of around the cyst to come up with a plan for surgery, but I had a scan of my chest and my pelvis.

Why did they scan my chest? I'm now really worried they are looking for cancer and that it may have spread from my ovary. They had no logical reason to scan my chest. It was a contrast dye scan as well. Any thought please? I'm really concerned.

  • After my ultrasound last July found cysts on my ovaries I was also sent for CT scans of chest and pelvis. I was told at the time that the chest scan was standard procedure for cases where surgery was under consideration as they could get a good overview of your standard of health prior to an operation. I've no medical training myself but that is what I was told. As I posted before, I also had MRI and in the end they decided my cysts were benign and I was put on 6 monthly scans to keep an eye on them. The largest is 5.5cm and was unchanged at the 6 month scan.

I all goes well for you. This stage of testing and waiting for news is so stressful.

  • Thanks for your reply.

I guess that makes sense as I've been informed likely surgery just waiting for MDT decision.

  • I'm in a similar position at the moment, but waiting for the CT scan. My ultrasound showed up a cyst and I've immediately been given a date for a CT scan with the dye. Haven't had my blood results back yet.

  • Hi

I have replied to your post also. I had my follow up consultation last week with gynae consultant following loads of tests and scans etc, I was pretty much kept in the dark all the way through the last several weeks but consultant has confirmed that they were doing all the scans etc to find out more in relation to the raised CA125 and to see if cyst had grown. So it was for process of elimination.

MDT have decided I need total hysterectomy and removal of both ovaries as they cannot find anything related to the raised CA125 apart from the cyst which they are now suspected as cancerous.

I'm on the urgent 2ww list for surgery so any day now.

Obviously our cases might be completely different and hopefully they can find yours as being benign.

    Good luck.

  • Thank you, I hope your surgery goes well x
