I had my first breast
biopsy today and get the results in 7/10 days. The doctor advised that the lump is almost certainly cancer. Is this a fair and accurate assumption?

Hi Batgirl,
A very warm welcome to our forum. Doctors see a lot of cancers annd can almost detect them from the feel and shape. However they still carry out a biopsy, just to be certain. I have had three cancer scares and on all occasions, my consultant was pretty sure that they were cancerous from my initial appointment. On 2 occasions he was correct, but fortunately, on the third, a biopsy proved otherwise.
Your consultant is unlikely to tell you that it is cancer, unless he is pretty sure. This gives you a little time to come to terms with a cancer diagnosis, rather than getting hit in the face with it, when you return for your results. This is always a shock and it takes some time to come to terms with it. You may experience all sorts of emotions over the next few weeks. This is perfectly normal, so don't let it upset you.
I am hoping and praying that your consultant is wrong about this. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.
Kind regards,
Jolamine xx
